I broke your moms timing belt, she's an interference whore so there was head damage.

You know who likes to break a belt on me?
MY MOM!
>>

i only drive non interference engines so who cares

My ass no in your moms dick but i

No but it has jumped before and fucked my valves up

>implying the timing belt breaking on a noninterference is good
>>
>>14805598
Yup. Replaced a belt and it broke about seven thousand miles later.

Interference engine too. I was super pissed.
>>
>>14805726
Did you have to replace the engine?

I'm so paranoid. Are high performance belts worth it?
>>
Kevlar belts ftw

Do you have an interference engine?
>>
>>14805772
mine is non, but i'm wondering about my next ride
>>
>>14805598

Strange whirring noise occasionally comes from under the belt cover. I think I'm worried.
It's a non interference but it doesn't mean there won't be some damage somewhere.
At least it's a shitbox.
>>
>>14805878
why not change it now if you're in doubt? sure beats a tow or having it breakdown on the hwy
>>
EPDM vs oem???
>>
>>14805886
This, nigga. Just change it.

Yes, car was interference engine. Was catastrophic. Would not recommend.

While we're on the topic—I don't get it; why does anybody ever use a timing belt instead of a timing chain? Can't we all just use chains and never worry about it slipping or breaking? Is it a cost thing?

>>
>>14807777
Mostly cost, engine NVH, and complications with lubricating the chain.

If you have the money for maintenance, belt is better.
But life long chain life can be great - if they design it right
>>
>>14807799
I haven't heard any cases of a chain straight up snapping when installed correctly
GUYS
LISTEN GUYZ
GUYS
DOOD
I HAVE AN IDEA
GUYS
LET'S MAKE THIS INTEGRAL PART OF THE ENGINE
GUYS HEAR ME OUT
LET'S MAKE IT HELD TOGETHER WITH RUBBER
GUYS
NO GUYS CHAINS ARE DUMB IT'S HARDER TO TURN
GUYS PLUS WHEN THE BELT SNAPS THE WHOLE MOTOR IS FUCKED SO THEY HAVE TO GET A NEW ONE
GUYS
IT'LL BE LIKE AN OIL CHANGE
EVERY 100,000 MILES YOU GOT TO CHANGE IT
WELL BE RICH!
NOOOO DOUBLE TIMING CHAINS ARE GAYYYY WELL LOSE LIKE A 10TH OF A HORSEPOWER AND THE MPGS WILL DROP A TINY BIT
>>
>>14805598
Yup. On a 6G72. Water pump seized, belt fuckin shedded into ribbons. Was going fast enough that I was able to coast a good 2 miles to get off the highway and into a gas station to wait for a tow. Might have a picture of the carnage...

No but I broke my belt on your mom's ass last night

chains make allot of noise compared to belts
and the tensioning systems for chain driven dohc wear out quickly
>>14806153
>flat head
>no head gasket
valve head breaks off stem
FUCK
>>
>>14807875
Noise? Really? That's the worst reason to not have a chain you can't even hear the chain
And coats engines are pure bs brah
Dohc is also shit
Pushrod to the end
>>
>>14807952
noise was the main reason most auto makers gave for not using chain
the self tensioning duplex chains don't make too much noise compared to the engines they were put on

there is a bit of a war going on at the moment
chains are making a comeback but oil submerged belts are starting to come into play
>>
>>14807982
But in the end a belt isn't a good choice for longevity yea it doesn't take much to turn the belt but the stretch on them is hard to avoid along with total failure
>>
>>14807996
I'm running a chain driven cam in block push rod ohv atm
honestly 47 hp and ft-lb is not so bad for only 900 cc
I have considered mild turbo charging as only 9 psi can get the power up to 80 hp

> driving a car at all

When will this meme die
>>
>>14807875
I drive car with 280k miles with dohc. It's got the og chain and tensioner.
The tensioner easy as fuck to change out anyway.
>>
What are some advantages for interference engines over non-interference?
>>
>>14808103
higher compression ratio
>>
>>14808103
You need to avoid any electrical interfittence

piston engines are really terrible...
>>
>>14805598

Yes. Chrysler 2.5L, non-interference.
Had a 2.0L Ford CVH engine jump time on me (faulty tensioner) but it was non-interference too.
