Does this look too shady? Not sure if it's worth it to go over and check it out...
>1999 Corvette

CARFAX says 7 previous owners, which isn't ideal, but no accidents. What kinds of things should I look out for?
>>
>>14797799
>7 previous owners
I wouldn't.
>>
The price for those miles seems a bit suspect.

Are the removable tops known to have problems with leaking?
>>
Seems like average pricing for that miles and condition. Few things to keep in mind:

>z06 rear brake ducts
An owner installed them, they're not factory, even if they're not real it's an indicator that there may be some beating on in its past
>magnetic ride control
The shocks are expensive as fuck with this option, when they go you're most likely gonna replace them with non-mag, which is fine
>dual zone a/c
Problematic, has issues
>active handling
Congrats, it has competition mode

Otherwise it looks like it has all the bells and whistles, I personally wouldn't pay a dime over 10.75k for it, 11 max if you really want it.
>>
>>14797834
Absolutely, you're gonna have wind noise and it's gonna leak at some point, nothing a set of $600 weatherstripping won't fix
>>
>>14797837
So should I ask them to go $10k? Start low so they meet me somewhere in the middle?

I don't know how to haggle...
>>
>>14797841
That sucks. Most of the C5's I've seen for sale are removable top.
>>
>>14797861
Yeah, start at 10, say it's high miles, 7 owners, he'll come lower, probably down to 11.5/12. Then say something like you live a couple hours away, youre not interested in coming down to see it unless the price is right, offer 11 etc.
>>
>>14797837
>beating on in its past
Are these engines pretty tough?
>>
>>14797972

>are these pretty tough?
Fuck yes.
>>
Is a Corvette even worth having if I don't have a place to garage it? It would be my only car, so I'm thinking I might lose my mind worrying about it getting fucked up by the elements and/or vandalized.
>>
>>14798343
It's like any other car.

The rear deck is susceptible to paint fade, so it would be worth getting a car cover, otherwise it's a normal automobile.
>>
>>14797972
Can easily hit 200k miles with regular maintenance. There's vettes going 500k+ with original engine and tranny with just regular servicing. The drive train is bulletproof.
>>
Is that that shit lot in northern Virginia near dulles? I bought a car from one of those and it needs a new catalytic converter a month after I got it, stay the fuck away from northern Virginia used cars.
>>
>>14798585
Manassas actually. Affectionately called "Manasshole" by us locals. It does look like a shady lot.
>>
things to look for
oil pressure pegged (oil pressure sending unit shitting the bed is common)
headlight gears dying (cheap fix)
HVAC display dim/dying
roof leak (wind noise inevitable with removable roof)
car looks clean, and more importantly stock. while someone may have raced it then just returned to stock it looks pretty clean. don't let the miles fool you, its barely over 4.5k a year which is someones weekend warrior. does carfax show owners sharing miles or 1-2 people putting majority on? that t-56 LS goodness will last another 10 years easily. the interior may not but who cares you already know that. make sure to pull any codes off the DIC. you can do that manually, don't need a reader and super easy. i picked up a c5z earlier this year. love the c5 so far, you won't be disappointed if you pick it up. pewter has never been my favorite color personally though. not a great deal as its dealer pricing but not terrible. offer 10k see what they say. don't be afraid to walk away as there are an abundance of c5s to choose from.
>>
>>14797799
>7 owners

OP you're retarded if you buy that
>>
Shameless bump, but it was about to get archived and I have more questions...

- How annoying are these to daily in terms of ground clearance? Speed bumps and sloped driveways etc.

- How's the insurance on these for a 27 year-old? Two speeding tickets, but they're pretty spread out (one when I was 17, the other at 26)

things to look for
>oil pressure pegged (oil pressure sending unit shitting the bed is common)
mine is all good, regular oil changes help
>headlight gears dying (cheap fix)
tried fixed headlights for a while went back to stock with brass gears
>HVAC display dim/dying
my entire HVAC system is dead, will fix someday
>roof leak (wind noise inevitable with removable roof)
i replaced my seals, nut still get drips from time to time

overall i agree, good car, why not try to haggle if its what you want, 5 years ago i talked the dealer down to 15.5k from 18k just by nitpicking

Took another look at the CARFAX

Owner 1 (1 yr. 8 mo.)
>Sold at 32,501
Owner 2 (2 months)
>Sold at 35,022
Owner 3 (1 month)
>Sold at 35,567
Owner 4 (1 month)
>Sold at 39,941
Owner 5 (5 yrs. 5 mo.)
>Sold at 46,603
Owner 6 (7 yrs. 5 mo.)
>Sold at 66,630
Owner 7 (1 yr. 5 mo.)
>Offered for sale at 75,516
>>
>>14799087
Yep that's the lot. I wouldn't do it. All those cars there are the leftovers from dealer auctions.

I made the mistake once already and it put a serious dent on my finances, I regret ever getting that car.
>>
Owner 1 put roughly 43% of the miles on.

2, 3, and 4 barely made a dent.

Owner 5 - 1,479 mi/yr

Owner 6 - 3,167 mi/yr

Owner 7 - 5,274 mi/yr

You may not like the terminology, but a LS motor is still considered a small block chevy.

I wonder own many different human fluids that car has
>>
>>14797993

It's technically a small block V8 from Chevy, but it's not a SBC, it's an LS1
>>
>>14797799
I\mean if you enjoy not being able to turn then go for it my man.
>>
>>14803123
But it's a Corvette, you're not very good at memeing
>>
>>14803123
Worst troll attempt ever.
>>
>>14803110
Probably owners 2-4. They just owned it for a month to get some road head.
>>
>>14802959
Here's my assessment. Most of the miles can be attributed to owner 1. Looks like owners 5 and 6 had the car the longest (combined total of 13 years), but didn't put many miles on it.

I'd give it a fair look.

Just fyi, if this is your only car, the cupholder on C5's is a complete joke. Really only useful for holding change. Might sound like a silly complaint, but it sucks when you don't have anywhere to put a drink.

I'd save some more and go for a C6.

Is an auction when they can't sell the car on the lot?
