99.9999% if powersteering problems is it failing. Meaning you have to invest a little more manual force, is all.
i have yet to be convinced electric power steering is anything other than a way to get 1-2mpg more out of the car and satisfies the bean counters

That just looks like a shitbox power steering system failing. Electric and hydraulic power steering racks can both fail.

The electric power steering on my GTI was fantastic. Plenty of feel and just the right amount of assist.
