My idiot brother in law has a "classic" muscle car that's rusted to shit, motor is out of it and it needs a shitton of work and he thinks he can sell it for nearly $30k.

I swear boomers would sell 2x4s for 5 grand if they were once in the trunk of a camaro and the numbers match.
>>
It's sad the classic car market is slowly becoming either fully restored cars or disassembled, rusting pieces of shit. There's no in between, no simple driver classics. It's like the plight of the middle class.

I know. I just want a running 70's American manual coupe with an overabundance of power and dogshit suspension that isn't rusted to the core. Is it too much to ask?

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. It's well known that E-bodies, especially #'s matching big block ones fetch absurdly high money, but that's just how much they're worth no matter how many whiny miata owner faggots on a Congolese gravel transporting forum complain.

Besides, you can easily find cheap 318/340 Challengers for 15-20k in pretty good condition if you look hard enough.

Why are old Triumph and MG owners so chill, /o/? It's like they want to spread the club to new members instead of trying to make a quick buck like other boomers.
>>
>>14793749
Because they're shit and no one buys them.
>>
>>14793733
The kind of person that would buy that as a project would check the VIN and fender tag and make sure everything lines up.

I doubt he would be offering the VIN freely unless it actually was.

but he's not. you have to call him up and request it. he probably won't give you the vin if he thinks you're just looking. probably have to cup the balls and even then I doubt he would. If it was legit (or if he genuinely thinks its legit) he would of included the vin in the ad.
>>
>>14793835
On a site where people cover their license plates of their shitboxes with their thumb, what makes you think he would post the VIN of his (admittedly claimed) rare optioned car on the internet?

Honestly if it was my car I wouldn't just post it either, and I don't think it's unreasonable to only give it to someone who is seriously interested.

These cars have fender tags which would be more accurate on options then the VIN.

Even with this it still doesn't prove the 383 he has is matching.
>>
>>14793802

Impossible. There is literally no possible way to make more boomers. When they die off, it will be Xer's. Then XXXX. And Then XXXX, etc.

>>
>>14793870
That's what I said, a serious buyer interested in that kind of project would check the fender tag as well.

None of it proves anything. I could be wrong for all either of us know, but my point was just that IF it's truly a numbers matching car and some boomer was looking for it then they'd be smart enough to check for themselves.
If not then the car goes unsold and the owner just keeps the car or lowers the price.
>>
>>14793901

Lots of muscle cars are affordable. I constantly see Camaros, Mustangs, Firebirds, Darts, Satellites, LeMans, Novas, etc in good condition for 10k.

When you start going into factory sport vehicles with the highest trim levels, biggest engines, manual transmissions, most desirable body styles, etc it starts getting expensive.

But really, vintage cars have shot up in value because labor and parts have become much more expensive then they were before. Most guys with muscle cars in my car club have far more into them than what they are worth not even counting their sweat equity.

That Challenger has a realistic market value of 4-6k. More if the drivetrain is all rebuilt.
>>
>>14794348
Really? 6k for a fucking shell?
>>
I think it is a good thing that older muscle cars are overpriced. It keeps them out of the hands of these retarded kids that you see driving these hondas/nissans/subarus. I would rather see one rust away than have stupid shit done to it before some high school drop out "drifts" it into oncoming traffic.

Boomers will all be gone in 20-30 years, but the prices will never drop to realistic levels

>>14793640
Also this, I just want a 1970s daily driver, something like a Rover SD1 or a Triumph Vitesse. My options are FULL RESTORATION TO BETTER THAN NEW £30,000 or NEEDS RESTORATION, SOME FRAME LEFT £999
>>
>>14793749
Old MGs were made in insane numbers (something like 700,000 MG Bs, and another half million GTs) and always marketed to the common man.

They'll be reasonable for another 10 years at least. I'm looking at getting myself a B GT and road legal ones look to start at around £1500
>>
>>14793749

Gotta pass on the knowledge of how to fix all the fucked up brit shit somehow, and that doesn't happen if you scare away potential owners.

I helped a previous GF's dad with a ton of electrics on his Triumph Spitfire, and that's basically the basis for all my automotive electrical knowledge.
>>
>>14794808
That was 2005. After about 2011 prices skyrocketed on used cars in general. I bought a daily drivable 1972 Plymouth satellite for $3000 in 2009
>>
>>14793803
Hey there, I'm retarded and don't know what a "Clone" chevelle means. Can you please explain? Is it like, the body is not true to the frame?
Thanks
>>
>>14794829
You raise a more salient point than you realise. The pre-war motorcycle scene in the UK is suffering enormously because they didn't bring new blood into the scene. How many people do you know who know what a Rudge is, let alone the service procedures?
>>
>>14793803
>won't list the price
Thats where I would have walked away.
>>
>>14795802
>what a "Clone" chevelle means.
Chebby cars get a package called "ss", like Camaro SS, El Camino SS. What he means is someone took a normal Chebelle and tryed to make it appear to be an SS.
>>
>>14794068
Thats at least a complete and driveable classic muscle car, with a big block. It just pisses me off when they want 10k for rusting shells.
>>
>>14795802
Somebody put SS badging on a car that didnt have the "SS" package from the factory.
>>
>>14793868
Buy a Hellcat, GT350R, or ZL1.
>>
>>14795891
>>14795845
Okay, thank you anons!
>>
>>14795987
To be fair, "cloning" usually also implies they equipped it like an SS too. With the gigantic aftermarket these cars have, you can pretty much turn any regular model into its performance one. It's not an SS (and thus shouldn't be worth as much), but it lets you experience what they're like without worrying about damaging an investment piece.

It's pretty much the only way to actually drive a Hemi Cuda convertible at any point in your life. They made like 9 total in two years.
>>
>>14794058
I wish it had 3 pedals
>>
>>14794695
That's not a shell, you dumb shit. It's a complete car, but partially disassembled, likely to hunt down and clean up any hidden rust spots, and restore the interior.

Hagerty values one of these, configured like it is, in "fair" condition, at $16k. Considering this guy would probably take $10k if you rolled up with cash, that's a perfectly reasonable price.

Most of these guys price their shit a bit higher than what they'll actually take anyways, so people can feel good about themselves for haggling a bit, or some dumbass might pay full asking price.

2 weeks later he put up a Chevy Nova with a 454 and 4 speed for sale. Chevelle is still for sale too, didnt bother asking price this time, might this weekend.
>>
>>14798967
""""""""partially"""""""" disassembled.
>>
>>14799015
Yes, partially. That's kinda required to do a full restoration in most cases. A numbers-matching 383 Magnum car with a manual trans and what looks like original paint is definitely worth what he's asking. After a bit of cleaning up, and re-assembly, this thing would be worth a few thousand more.

I don't live there. Visited there. So many dirty ass hipsters everywhere. And a crazy amount of Homeless folks too.
>>
>>14799056
There's no. Proof of the 383 in the ad, the 3 speed manual is lower tier than the two automatics dodge had.
>>
>>14793587
By the time they die off most of the cars will have rusted away to nothing in the driveway so you'll end up having to pay the same price or more because the only ones left will be the ones that have been cared for and restored.
>>
>>14799224
It can easily be proven, though. The engine should be stamped with the VIN of the car it came with. Simple as that. And yeah, while a 3-speed isn't a nice as a 727 Torqueflite or a 4-speed, it's still a manual. That's pretty rare for the time period we're looking at. Most people were buying these cars with a 727 so they could go run at the strip.

I should just learn to never expect anything less than embarrassing from that city

The fact that *you* want one indicates there's demand beyond Boomers.

And when autonomous electric cars become the norm, they'll be even more demand for older cars.
