Both of these cars can handle well, so why do they only ever get used for drag racing?
>>14793364
I am monitoring this thread.
>>14793364
The camaro wasn't the top tier car of the line.
You are thinking of the transam.
>>14793364
Not sure about the supra, but f-bodies handle even worse than sn95 mustangs when reviewed.
>>14793364
because straight lines are pretty fun.
>>14793364
there are more economical choices than the supra and better choices than the camaro for the same money
>camaro
>"handles well"
>>14793468
The Trans Am was the top car? What's the idea behind it?
Is it because it's a "GT car" more than the musclebound Camaro?
>>14793470
>GM guys keep saying that 80's/90's Camaros could handle better than Mustangs
>Ford guys keep saying that 80's/90's Mustangs could hanlde better than Camaros
Which is it? Any proper comparisons done on the issue?
>>14793524
pontiac had nicer trim levels, and the WS6 trans am had a bunch of SLP parts (ram air intake, suspension, and other stuff) that made it perform in a more well rounded way than the SS, but the SS was the lightest.
>>14793364
The cameo is push-god wrapped in chinese steel and is cheap, but muy live feel-axle. The poopra has better handling alternatives.
The 2jz will take all the power you throw at it. Even stock the internals are strong as fuck so it's easy to get into tuning
>>14793528
stock for stock base GT/LX 5.0 vs SS, mustang wins. 1LE 3rd gen handles pretty good though, it was stellar at SCCA racing.
>>14793543
you can get more out of an LS :^)
I was interested in a Camaro or Trans Am.
Either 3rd or 4th gen. The engine bay looks super cramped and difficult to see anything.
How is the maintenance on it?
>>14793556
3rd gen is easier to live with but the 4th gen is a better car.
>>14793541
> e36 m3 handles better than an NSX
really?
it's obvious why the FD wasn't pictured though ;)
>>14793566
Talking reliability or handling and performance? The third gen seems to me has a nice angular and cool looking interior than 90s era GM with cheap plastics everywhere.
>>14793589
define reliability.
>>14793555
People are lazy and slapping a giant turbo on a 2JZ is easy power compared to actually planning out cams, intake, exhaust ect
>>14793597
Can you DD it?
>>14793601
you can DD anything if you want. optispark can be shitty, but it all depends on how much preventative maintenance you do.
>>14793599
you can slap a turbo on a 4.8 and make a comfortable 600hp without doing anything but injectors.
>>14793578
yeah, because it wasn't for sale in north america pizza boy

u wot m7
It's because they've been typecast as drag cars by their main demographics.
Supra
>FnF yo
>2JZ no shit
>Dyno queens with 600-1000 hp became a huge part of the "community" in the mid 2000s
>Now anyone who wants a JDM tyte RWD drag car looks for one
Its handling was actually better than most of its competitors, so that's a real shame. There are a decent amount of track Supras, though. You're just more likely to see a drag one or a stupid rice box.
Camaro
>Yee haw cleetus
>LS1 brah
>Makes a pretty decent drag platform and didn't handle that well from the factory, so people take the easy route and make them into drag cars because it's simpler
The Camaro needs more work to handle well, in all honesty. It's still done sometimes, but it's usually by shops so far as I can tell from reading magazines and LS1tak.
>>14793671
drag racing is cooler m9
>>14793685
Please tell me the pigfat lost
>>14793502
allot of under-steer but it can get around corners with power-slides
easy to drive even if it requires a bit of wheel work
>>14793533
my '99 Pontiac trans am with 17x9 wheels with new oem struts handles amazing

don't remember. I think it was close though.

>tfw no LS1
>tfw no f-body
>>14793723
fuck yeah
>>14793753
Fukken' saved.
>>14793731
I almost bought one of these for $700, but it was too fucking rusty so I gave up. Would have paid maybe $350 for it. As far as I know, it's still for sale (small town), might go buy it eventually if she comes down on the price.
Actually I think it was the dodge version, but definitely turbo. Engine sounded decent but it had like 350,000 kms on it.
>>14793899
yeah dude has put a lot of work in it. no back seats, 5 speed swap. Turbo2 motor, semi-drag radials on the front. It is a definite sleeper.
>>14793958
That's pretty cool m8. If I have some extra cash over the summer I might consider buying the shitty one I mentioned. I really wouldn't know where to start with an ancient Dodge turbo though, I'm used to japshit.
>>14794002
the aftermarket is pretty big and documentation is huge. you will break things though.
>>14793364
>Both of these boats can't handle well, so they only ever get used for drag racing.
ftfy
>>14793555
Until 6 grand
>>14794035
lq9 > 2jz
no replacement for displacement.
>>14793621
> E36 m3, released in 1992
> F355, released in 1993
> FD RX-7, released in 1991
>>14793684
>but it's usually by shops so far as I can tell from reading magazines and LS1tak.
>literally every fbody on the internet is running race suspension with full sub connectors
also
>needs more work to handle well
a $5000 fbody compared to a $30,000 supra
also 98-02 fbodies handle very well stock
>>14794035
>6000 rpm
that's a stock cam. cam and valve springs brings the rev limit to 7000 in an LS
>>14793615
>can you dd it
tfw my LS1 Fbody has been the most reliable car i've ever owned
i haven't done anything to it for the last 6 months since ive had it. just change oil
>>14793533
The SS was from slp too. I've owned both.
