I know this feel

>Buy Subaru Wagon
>Automatic
>Only driven auto 2 times before ever
>Never owned one
>Want to make sure I don't fuck it up

It should be as simple as chucking the bitch into D and going, but autos need to be maintained differently, driven differently in situations where manual control is desired, etc.

Example - I cannot manually deselect overdrive/torque converter lockup in my Subaru, so if I throw it from D to 3 for some reason, it's essentially dropping 2 gears worth of revs, which needs to be taken into account.

And if I want to start in 2nd gear, I can actually put it in 2 and it will do it - Amazing!

why would you ever want to start an auto off in second?

Snow/Ice?

I come from the land of the ice and snow - features like this are exceedingly important to me.
>>
>>14792537
Literally just push the pedal lightly. If you cant handle getting an automatic to not slip starting in the snow you really shouldn't be driving in the snow at all.
>>
>>14792604

Sorry, I'm such a faggot that I prefer to simply use my gears to do things.

Coming from a world where 1st gear is typically so fast that using it snow and ice is guaranteed to end poorly (MX-5 6-speed fuck that shit homie) I'll be over here mechanically limiting how much power hits the floor instead of trying to feather the gas.

It means that your truck does not get 10mpg highway.

Sounds like someone needs to learn throttle control.

overdrive is for when you need to drive over things

a/t means activate turbo
