AFAIK, they were always able to be fined for running a red light, but the fine was stupidly low - like 50 bucks or something stupid - and its now been upped to the same fine as for a car running a red light (i could be completely wrong though - just my hazy recollection of pre-coffee morning news a while back)

I don't hate cyclists per se, but I really fucking hate Bike Nazis. You know the type - riding on a major road in a "pelaton" two abreast and 30 meters long. Swerving all over the fucking road and asserting "their rights" on curves while ignoring stop signs because they're saving the planet.

The asserting their rights on curves thing is usually just about not getting clipped by someone trying to pass them where there isn't space. I only really take the lane at roundabouts and places where the road furniture makes it too narrow or technical for me to trust someone to pass safely and it's just a defensive thing to make sure they won't try. You give the lane back right after if you're not an asshole.
I can't and don't want to defend blowing stop signs and I really don't know how to feel about pelotons though (safer from cars, more dangerous from the rest of the bicycles).
