What is you idea of good MPG?
most V8 4x4 will only give 16-18 mpg at best
V6 4x4 will do the same or worse.
4 cylinders can get you close to 30mpg
what kind of vehicle do you want.
there are some Volvo AWD cars (5 cylinder turbo) that will give you 30mpg easy

Haven't gotten stuck in my outlander yet and I live in wet muddy Washington. Though I haven't gone deep kidding yet mostly stayed on trail for general testing to see what it can do. Also the outlander comes in manual aswell with 4wd.
