Can you tell right off the bat if an engine isn't built right by driving or listening to it ?
I ask because i'm going to look at a Foxbody on Friday. the owner says he had the block machined at a reputable shop, but built the engine himself.
he says its also his 4th build
how much of a risk would i be taking if i bought this car?

he sent me more pictures they look pretty decent he says the power steering windows and locks all work and that he has the receipt for the block and parts he used for the build
so is there no real way to know by test driving if i am buying a lemon ?
i would hate for everything to be gravy for the first 1000 miles or so and then all of a sudden go to shit

Alright mane, let me say im new here and know very little but to answer your question, I would say two things: look for weird knocking sounds and see at what rpm it idles. If it struggles to iddle at anything below 900 rpm, get the fuck out. Also, again in idle, check how it behaves, observe it a couple minutes to see if it accelerates on its own in iddle, especially if its cold.
Honestly with 4 rebuilds I wouldnt really risk it unless its real cheap. But hey its up to you.
