Skyactiv isn't meant to be "the best" in any one category. It's meant to be okay or good in all categories. The engine was designed to not be COMPLETELY gutless while still giving good mpgs and to be an economy car that is fun to drive. If you want to feel the difference and have a real world example and not just reading shit on paper. Go drive a Mazda CX-5 compared to Honda CR-V or Nissan Rogue or even domestic. Specifically drive a cx5 in touring or higher trim and hoon it around corners and put it into sport mode and feel it. It truly is a really good package, but when you look at any one individual thing it doesn't seem impressive or even very good at all but as a package it is good

Skyactiv is basically super high compression to get good enough mpgs without having to have a CVT or rediculous 9 speed or dual clutch garbage. Not really meant to be a race car or mpg Prius killer. It's really just a fix to have a fun econobox while still hitting cafe standards and emissions
