Is it okay to use regular water to flush your cooling system? I've usef flushing compound and then distilled water three times but I still got brown shit coming out and it's taking forever plus I'd have to go and buy another can.
>>
No it will melt your radiator.
>>
here's how to do it quick

>garden hose straight into reservoir
>pop drain plug
>turn on water
>turn on car

That would probably work, but your car would need to be stone cold.

You realise that brown shit is the rust from your engine block right?
Its not something you can wash out completely.
>>
Doesn't water cause scaling?
>>
>>14782868

Yeah I realize that but obviously theres lots of loose deposits since it's still so brown after few flushes.

I'll take scaling over aggressive corrosivity any day. I'm looking at you distilled water.
>>
>>14782887
Wut? Distilled water doesn't corrode.
>>
>>14782916
It does.
Its actually the oxygen in the water that causes rust.
It is degassed when distilled, but will absorb oxygen from the air, or something.

The rust inhibitors in modern engine coolants will decrease scaling and rust.

>drain fluids
>remove thermostat but re-attach hose/housing.
>remove upper and lower radiator hoses.
>stick hose in top of radiator and flush
>stick hose in top of engine where upper radiator hose was and flush

Idk it's like science or some shit man. Somebody told me distilled water is bad and causes more corrosion than tap water.
>>
I drove a small block chevy with plain tap water as coolant for over 5 years and it was fine.

Is there any reason to use OEM coolants over "all makes all models" prestone

less corrosion

>>14782821
use a rust remover, which is basically acid.
then flush it.

tap water causes corrosion because of the trace minerals in it you dumb nigger.
Distilled is what you are supposed to use.

Last time I changed my coolant I didn't do a proper flush and so a about 3 quarts of my 10.5 quart system capacity is tap water. Am I fucked?

You should use Diamond class Deluxe water if you don't want to overpolarize your flux capacitors.
In the event you do overpolarize your flux capacitors, you need to change your headlight fluid.
