That was the last generation model. The F5x models now have a round speedo with a small arc tach centered in front of the driver. (Wife has one of the dinner plate ones, and just ordered a new one).
2nd Gen Minis have some really stupid shit. On the convertibles, instead of a speedo gauge in front of the driver they replace it with a round "Openometer" gauge that gives a readout in dial form of the number of hours since the top was last raised. Data is even stored in the ECU from stupidass Mini promotions. Yes, they could have put a speedo in front of you, but instead you get an Openometer.
Thank goodness the new ones are somewhat de-quirked.
