My uncle is selling his 1973 240z and has asked if I want it. Engine has kinda crapped out so I'm planning on dropping an rb26det into it. Just thought I'd let y'all know.
>>14769582
Paint it midnight blue.....
>>14769582
>so I'm planning on dropping an rb26det
you say that like its piss easy and cheap lol. i got ten bucks you are talking out of your ass.
as in you uncle isnt even selling a 240z and youre making all this shit up. if you were serious youd already by working on this and not shitting up this board with your lies.

/thread
I doubt you would be able to swap it without experience swapping. Then comes the tuning. It would be easier if you swapped in a 2.8LET from a 280ZX
>>14769629
this. Idiots these day just BS about non-native swaps.
how heavy is the rb compared to other datsun i6 engines?
>>14769582
At least you posted a pic of a great looking Z.
>>14769582
>having family with classic cars
The only family member who has a unique car that I could inherit is my uncle who has an old foxbody which I've never seen run.
Should I just ask for it? It's been stored under a steel roof, but still outside so it's seen some shit
Wow sorry for pissing you guys off with the rb comment geez. I'm not attempting to do this alone, I got my dad and a couple friends, and access to a shop. This is meant to be more of a project car, I already have a 350z that I'm more than happy with.
>>14769656
lol no he didnt North American datsuns are ugly as fuck.
look at its front bumper compared to the Japanese Z.
>>14769851
No you are wrong. This is an American model.
>>14769851
That front looks like it had an encounter with a steamroller
>>14769851
God damn I hate the G nose. Ruins the entire front end.
>>14769582
Why not just find a l28 out of a 280zx and build that like everyone else does? Tripple side draft carbs on a stroked l28 is possibly the best sounding engine that exists. it can give you more than enough power than you really need in a 240z and its got all the community's support.
>>14769582
Maybe you should consider an RB25, RB26 comes from an AWD vehicle, you would need to make the Z AWD too.
>>14770023
this would be terrible...
>>14769582
Where does you uncle live and how much is he selling the car for?
>>14769999
>>14770023
Thanks for your inputs. I will check those out. Still waiting to get an asking price, so for now I'm mostly just spitballing. I am partial to rb engines.
>>14770043
why
>>14770050
The car is in BC (Canada) and has been parked in a garage for longer than i can remember, none of the fluids were drained. I think there is some surface rust in a couple places. Not too sure about details, I haven't taken a look at it yet. I think originally he was gonna sell it for 12k, but since I'm family that price will probably go down. It seems a bit high to me.
>>14770086
It was running when he parked it, but I have no idea how long it's been parked. Probably at least 10 years.
>>14770086
12k Is cheap if it was fine when it was parked.. Being a canada car it is probably in nice shape interior wise. for an average 240z you should expect to pay 19k cad
>>14770023
Wat
That makes zero sense.
Apparently my cousin managed to start it up a couple years ago, but it was running pretty rough. That's all I know.
>>14770168
l series engines are tanks. it probably just needs new fluids and filters. Early z cars are incredibly reliable
>>14770214
That's good to hear, I'm hoping I can drive it home. Can't say no to road trips
>>14769908
you dumbass. look at OPs pic that is the one im referring to
>>14769582
>Just thought I'd let y'all know.
Ok.
>>14770434
No you dumbass. I am op and I got that pic off goog images. That's not what the car looks like.
>>14769812
just do it
>>14769582
Do it OP,
Doing an I6 swap myself, its gonna get pricey
>>14770164
lrn 2 nissan
>implying any of us truly care what your google dreams are comprised of
>>14769993
It would look OK on a different car, but what makes the Z so sexy is that it's very visually balanced, and the stub nose matches the rear a lot better.
>>14770923
Just use a transmission from a GTT or get an adapter for the stock one.
>>14769582
even in japan they arent doing that swap... what are they using? chevy 350. yes and its way easier and cheaper to get power out of those than a RB. 383ci 500hp may be the limit for a 350 but in a light shell like 24 ounce it will fly
>>14769582
May as well swap in a 1.0L Ecoboost, it's still going to be a shit car.
>>14771108
You seriously think a 350 swap is more popular than rb swaps in Japan? Retard
>>14769582
>planning on dropping an rb26det into it
>>14771120
look it up dickhead: its fact there is even one in the factory race colours.
>>14769629
Either this or an L28 from a 280z. It's basically the same engine as what was in the 240z but just slightly larger and it actually has an aftermarket compared to the original L24.
>>14769851
Not all Japanese Fairlady's had the G-nose, but they do look pretty nice. In my opinion they kinda fuck up the proportions of the car, but that's just me.
>>14770226
I'd still trailer it if I were you, since you never know what could be wrong
Everybody ITT that is mad about him swapping an RB is a GODDAMN hypocrite cause you wouldn't say shit if he was swapping in a LS engine
>>14769582
You should swap in an aluminum SBC or LS1 instead.
>>14769851
The G-nose was an options package made so they could homologate then for racing.
Standard Fairlady Z's look like pic related
>>14770052
RBs are over priced. Get an L28, send it to Rebello and have them work their magic. Also get a L24 head because it's higher compression and run 3 weber carbs and an equal length header. It'll sound pretty damn close to an RB and be a lot simpler.
Also you don't have to make it awd when swapping in an RB of any kind..
>>14771285
Yes we would.
>>14772275
OP do this
>>14771285
No matter what OP does some broke dick, mouth breathing, bench racer on here will complain. They are just mad because they are forever-poors who won't ever fulfill their auto dreams.
Friggin a I wasn't paying attention to the right things.
>>14769582
>rd26det
WHY. I know its a nissan engine and a good engine but why would you not swap a in a domestic v8 if you presumably live in america? You could then force induce that. You're going to be paying out the butt for less power.
>>14772376
V8's twist datsuns. It's a neat swap but isn't a direct bolt in, not to say an RB is, and everyone does them. I'm not purist, but I enjoy seeing a car with close to its original equipment.
Also to add, get a 280z transmission. Taller gears and it's a 5 speed. And make sure you have a 10mm socket, that's really all you need to strip this car.
>>14770023
Everything in the drivetrain after the engine and transmission determines how many wheels spin you dummy.
