I consider myself an auto enthusiast but I've never driven a truly fast car because I dont even know anyone with a fast car and I live in a poorfag country where a remapped 1.9 turbo diesel is conisdered ''fast''.
The fastest car I`ve driven is my E46 328ci with 6.8 seconds 0-60 time which still blew away everything on the streets.
>>

Wow...I'm sorry...Like, I actually feel bad that my DD SUV is faster than that...Fuck man...

Yep I can`t help but get angry when my friends are boasting about their 140hp diesel VW passats and golfs as ''very fast cars''.
Sometimes when I get on a commercial plane and during takeoff I try to imagine how a relatively quick 0-270kph acceleration feels like because I have no clue.

Damn...I live in Texas, USA, and where I live, it's not impossible to get a car over 200mph on public roads, just because there's so much room.

I in fact got one of these (Pic related) to 212MPH on the flatlands of west Texas. Re-cammed LS7 with no catalytic converters and glass-pack mufflers, pushing 900horses at the crank.
>>
>>14767865
Just keep turning. And when you think you've turned enough, turn harder and hit the gas.

If I can drift a 5,000lb, fulltime 4WD SUV, you can drift.

Okay wait, Don't take that advice at face value.

Same faggot with the 5,000lb SUV here, if you really do want to drift, the trick to controlling it is, after you get the back end to slip loose, and it starts sliding, you need to turn INTO the drift.

For example, if you turned the wheel to the left to start the drift, turn it to the right to regain control. The wheel is to point the car, and guide the direction, but to actually control the angle, you need to use the gas.

More gas should make the car slip further, less should bring it under control.

But be careful. Too much gas, and you're gonna find the back end coming around to say hello.

Watch some videos of people doing it on youtube, there's tutorials. And don't be afraid to fail. It takes practice.

Pic mildly related: Drift machine.

>>14767907
This is correct, unless you're doing 100+mph. At that point, you probably shouldn't be drifting...
>>
>>14767846
Speak for yourself, slav
>>
>>14767923

>>
>>14767959
I feel like I should say that Toyota's are weird.
That SUV of mine normally front/rear power split of 40/60 from the 4.7L V8, but during turning, it switches it to a 29/71.

It will get sideways though. For a little while, at least. It want's to go straight. I'm going to be bypassing the Traction control soon, and wiring it to a switch in my dash so I can turn it on and off.

I have no license, I live in a slav land of no car culture and I got interested in cars because future responsibilities made me re-evaluate my relationship to cars (and because I'm a filthy weaboo that started listening to Eurobeat a few months back and watching Regular Car Reviews).

There's an old '89 Nissan Sunny 1.6 SLX hatchback I can invest into which is great because I'm a retro hipster that dislikes how new cars look and there's no chance to get a similar car around here unless it's sold for scrap.

This is my 2nd visit here on /o/ and I had hoped lurking here would prove fruitful to my efforts to learn more about cars overall but... well... I think I got what I expected.

>>I have no interest in autosports but I will never drive a car that's not "sporty"

This is understandable.

Once you grow out of the benchracer phase to realize that lap times and ETs don't really matter for a dedicated street car, you can appreciate a car for how it drives rather than how fast it is.
>>
>>14768023
Had a big ass lifted Camshaft running on 110 Octane, a KN Air intake, and a strengthened tranny to handle it all. Entirety of the engines valve-train was redone as well.

To give you an idea of how big the Cam was, it idled ROUGH at 1,800RPM. Like, the car was rocking side to side at 1,800. I got it to 212 and It was still pulling, about 300RPM off the original redline.

I lost the stones. We hadn't done anything to the suspension or chassis yet, and it was getting...Unhappy, with going that fast.

>>14767874
I actually have a 140hp 2.0TDI Golf.

It's by no means slow... I've driven a brand new NA Mazda, THAT was slow. My mom's Opel Corsa is slow.

It's fast if your frame of reference consists of grocery getters and other shitboxes, which, for the most part, is most peoples' complete frame of reference.

It felt fast to me, being my first car after having mostly driven aforementioned Corsa, but right now it just feels sluggish to me. I can push this car close to its limits and feel like I'm being held back. It is, in a more wholesome frame of reference, by no means fast.

>>14767865

>>
>>14768324
>uncouple front anti-roll bar (leave the back one alone)

>>
>>14768324
Drifting a FWD car is not really possible.
You can cause oversteer and have it kick the tail out, or even pull some massive slides through the corners, but actually powersliding isn't gonna happen.
>>
I like two door SUVs
>>
>>14768332
a FWD powerslide is possible. Slide thru the corner and mash the throttle with the wheel pointed straight to straighten out the car.

FWD drivetrain lets you control understeer/oversteer more easily

Confession:
Whenever a bird does its business on my car, I immediately run out the house and use my power washer to wash it off.
Confession 2:
I wash my 3 cars twice a week.
Confession 3:I really want a Honda S2000 or a Boxster even though my cars have much more power than the s2000 and the old boxster.
Confession 4: I listen to my engine every time I start it. I literally pop the hood and listen closely.

Confession 5: I use autosol and polish my exhaust tips an unhealthy number of times a month.

Confession 6:If I had a lift, I'd change my oil every week.

Confession 7: Even though I have 3 cars, I dream about buying a CBR125 bike and going for a ride.

Confession 8: I spend all my money on my cars.

Confession 9: I still feel uncomfortable when driving a different car which has a different clutch.

Confession 10:If my engine is making an odd sound, I lose sleep over it. I would hear the strange sound in my dreams.

I do this too, but with any sound I hear coming from the car. Then I go online and start reading about what the sound could be and I start losing even more sleep and sometimes even imagining the sound when I'm driving the car even though it's not there which makes me even more of a nervous wreck. I love wrenching on cars but the thought of my car breaking down makes me really upset because it makes me feel like I didn't maintain it correctly or fix it right the first time around.

Oh, confessions? Yeah, these days I'm just a jobless 26-year-old white guy with 2 engineering / science degrees and a 5-year near-daily morphine / heroin habit.

>I still drift a sick clean miata around the empty alabama streets all the time though, so it's whatever. You never really feel alive 'til you're drifting deer-laden "25 mph" curvy streets at 85 while zenned as fuck on an opiate / amphetamine combo listening to desert rock.

Another confession: the last girl I banged weighed over two times what I do and it was a fucking great time.

Okay, another: I think I used to be a psychopath until I really hit the hard drugs and discovered "empathy" in my lower-20's. In high school my "daily challenge" was to go at least 130 mph in my Honda on the highway that cut the city in half no matter how congested it was... This is a familiar story. You're going to loose your miat too it's just a matter of time.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but there are people out there willing to help you, and I don't mean in the recovery community they'll just make things worse. If you can't get into therapy try to find someone who has been clean 5-10 years or more and hope you're not beyond saving.

You feel like you're living but you're just one bad fent cut away from the obituaries.

That also doesn't sound psychopathic, it sounds like you've been suffering from severe depression for a long time, possibly from an inconsistent/abusive parental figure. You've probably suppressed your sense of empathy because you're overwhelmed by caring too much, how's your spacial reasoning?

Find a therapist, reach out to your family, find a support network. Or just keep self destructing it's really up to you.

>You feel like you're living but you're just one bad fent cut away from the obituaries.
I totally agree - the new fent shit is scary. Thankfully I now live where I can't even find weed so I'm into the "natural" stuff - pods (which are somehow weaker than ever) and seeds (which is somehow stronger than ever) - and these aren't conducive to being cut, but hey, it could happen.

I've gotten clean plenty of times and once I find a job I don't really envision the nod-life to be self-sustainable. I have such a high tolerance that I'd rather just smoke weed only at nights anyway. Those are really throwaway addict-excuse statements, but this isn't: I'm at a point where I just want to make something out of my life. I don't really want a girl / family but I want to do something in my field(s).

I have never pawned anything for money and would rather withdraw. I also know relapse is the most dangerous time.

>>14774072
I have been horribly depressed all of my life. I had (still have, somehow, 65 yrs-old and after one beat leukemia) great, loving, smart, and wealthy parents... But I just feel sad all the time and always have unless I'm getting some sort of extreme rush, which is usually dangerous and not a permanent solution. Idk, I live in a great place, in a great time, surrounded by great people, and heck, I'm even pretty damned good-looking even after 12 years of daily amps and 5 years of opiates on-and-off daily... But I still find myself crying randomly nearly every day at age 26... idk anymore, I'm used to it.

>>14774079
Desert rock is often called "stoner rock," and even though I fucking love cannabis and grew it for years, I dislike the term "stoner." It is stuff like Kyuss, which later became Queens of the Stone Age, Karma to Burn, Fu Manchu, Truckfighters, and lots of various flash-in-the-pan bands from the southwestern-US in the 90's. The lyrics don't necessarily have to make sense, it's really about the vibe - and often the bassline.

You're making sense but you're all over the place. That knowledge is useless if you can't get the horse infront of the cart. The line that always stuck with me is "you can't manage other people until you learn how to manage yourself." Managing depression means managing your body and your mind, it's hard to make something out of your life when pain relief is your full time job.

Five years is a long time, the physical effects of kicking are short-term and mild. Suffering through the long-term psychological torture is the real albatross. Good luck.

Well, until I get a real job in an engineering, science, or computing field, I see no reason to quit. Nobody likes kicking 1-2 times a month, but most of the best times of my life have been while I was on opiates (and usually 1-4 other drugs, but opiates are king) and if I'm just out here in a rural alabama forest job-hunting on my PC for a few months then I might as well be in a zen-trance state. A lot of people say that they can quit whenever, but I have the capability to have a better life sometime soon and I really want that and I couldn't imagine a better reason to kick for a loooong time.

I really want to get back on smoking weed potentially as long as I live but it's really the only thing that drug tests can detect which is problematic (though I have been known to bring other peoples' urine in a condom strapped to my thigh lol).

None of the cars you mentioned are moneypits, especially not Hondas, I regularly see accords get absoloutey ragged on in salty wintery areas and they don't die till 250,000 odd miles.

Subarus as long as they aren't the pre 99 ones with HG issues or models with piston ring issues are bombproof.

You don't have to call yourself hipster simply because you like a car that is made 25 years ago.
If one has to admit it, cars were objectively better 25 years ago than they are today for the simple reason
>pedestrian safety laws
>safety bubble cars
>generic looks, shitty SUV and Crossover dominating the market (because women have to compensate for something amirite guise????)
>simplifying cars to the point of a google car because Stacy can't keep her fucking eyes on the road and has to fucking text all the time

Thus all of these things combine to get something of a fucking rope that engineers want to hang themselves with because they are that fucking constricted. They can't make anything fun if they want to survive.
Thinking of the potentials of the cars through all things that electric and digital components in the cars could give us today, we could fucking fly them already and I should be living in the fucking golden age of cars, but no. Shitty people buy shitty cars, and I get no fucking chance to buy a fun car because all they churn out is boring status symbols to survive, so I will always be fucking stuck buying 90's shitboxes.
