OK, so, how about:

You keep the front grille, but all the air that comes in goes into a couple of pipe organ pipes tuned to make a nice low rumbling sound. Still won't make any noise doing burnouts but it'll sound beautiful on the highway.

The average American drives an average of 13,476 miles per year, or 37 miles a day.

A Tesla is 215+ mile range on its battery is more than adequate for most people and the still rapidly expanding supercharger network makes it a viable long distance driver.

I literally drive more than the range of that car in a day maybe twice per year. To a holiday destination across a couple of borders and going back a week later. Might as well rent a nice highway cruiser for that one week.

Every single other day in the year I drive, at the very most, 150km in a day. And I'm very sure that more than 90% of all car owners have a similar driving routine.

>but muh "I do drive a lot!!!" anecdote!
Yeah well you're not everyone in the world.

If I would be like 40 years old right now and actually had money, I'd keep a Tesla as DD and a Miata for the weekends/holidays. Tell me how this wouldn't be perfect.

And I think they're doubling this amount by 2017.

The only issue is a coworker was driving from Miami to Orlando and didn't leave home with a full charge planning to stop at a supercharger on the way. The supercharger he went to was out of service and he ran out of juice before getting to the next charger. But this is rare and avoidable.

My coworker is literally retarded. I work in a bank and he's a client adviser (the guy who brings in loans and deposits). In 3 years, he has literally brought in no new loans or deposits - he's just milking that one relationship.

>3rd world raping the planet
Makes it even more important for the 1st world to take responsibility and make as big of an impact as possible.

>12 billion population in 30 years
Official estimates say 11.2 billion in *a hundred years* which still won't be a problem if we play our cards right. Earth is fucking huge and can take that amount easily if we change our ways as we have in the past.

>"make more room on the lifeboat", live in a tiny house, and eat expensive food.
Bull-fucking-shit. First of all, even if you ignore the environmental issues, engines that burn fossil fuels are very outdated technology and the reason we keep them around is economic interests that have a powerful lobby, not because it makes sense. And second of all, nobody says you need to 'live in a tiny house and eat expensive food', that's a goddamn straw man. The first thing we need to change to quite literally safe the world is people's mind-sets.

That's where Tesla comes into play because they made electric cars *desirable*, which is really the most important part at the moment. Range and other concerns are secondary - those will come with time. What we need and what Tesla is going for are early adopters to get the ball rolling. The main reason why batteries that are suitable for e-vehicles are expensive is the almost non-existent demand at this point. Just look at cellphones for the first few years and especially how the market changed after the introduction of the iPhone - demand pushes technology; saying 'it's bad NOW so don't try in the first place' will get us nowhere.

Well that car that is pretty much free to drive, as in no gas payment assuming you have a supercharger near you. This would kill public transport.
Annoys the fuck out of me that it has no real dashboard. You could drive nonstop for days without spending 1 shekel.
The Model S has a good enough dashboard and they should have fucking copy pasted it if they couldnt come up with something better.

Its very unforgiving to have a tesla in eu though. Only germany and france have a few superchargers, but still nothing compared to usa.
The idea to tank these cars at home should only be a temporary solution. The idea of superchargers are great but they need to be very common.
Maybe even work for all kinds of electric cars.

Off the top of my head; 991 911, new BMW sedans and 4 series, new Mazdas, Cayman and even the Model S.
What I don't like about the model 3 is the grille-less design and the short length of the hood.
>>
>>14762662
>even the Model S
Interesting. It makes me wonder though, do you suggest that they keep using fake grilles? Because the alternative is making it flat like a sports car which it is not (and it would take away luggage space). The short length of the hood is something I didn't even think about. I guess they could simply stretch it if they wanted to but it wouldn't improve the design in my opinion. And all in all it's a decisively 'safe' design if you ask me - better not take any risks when designing the car that's supposed to be the first electric car that turns the tides for the average person...
>>
>>14762787
What's wrong with a fake grille though? It's something to decorate the empty space. Most normal cars don't even need big intakes for air despite the huge grilles. Fiat even aped this new Tesla grille on the new 500.

There's nothing *wrong* with it per se, it's just kinda weird to imitate the looks of a functional part for design purposes. It's like fake air-intakes on non-turbo cars or glued-on hood pins. I, for one, would rather have that Lexus from Minority Report than technologically advanced cars that are made to look like (from our current perspective) regular cars.
