I'm pretty sure they made it like this so they could charge you for more gaskets, because there manifold and the cover are connected just by a few plastic brackets and I can't think of a logic reason why they couldn't make them separate from each other. Pic related is the manifold

And replacing standard wear parts like brake pads/discs or oil+filter is actually very easy. The only reason I don't do it myself is because I'm lazy and can easily afford paying other people to do it. I'm not proud of that and neither should anybody else.

This is complete nonsense, only a certified mechanic has the proper know-how, skill, and years of training required to fix your vehicle properly without breaking anything and with the minimum amount of work and headaches.

>Pay Juan, family "mechanic" $20 to "take a look around under the hood" and mess with shit he's not supposed to

Chrysler did however design the car so you have to removed half the front to replace the blinker bulbs, no air filter, the trunk bushings rub and cause rust.

Rattles everywhere.

And got help you if you spill any oil at all, because the air intake for the cabin is right next to the oil fill side of the engine--smelling burning oil for days.

my lexus has wiper arms that have a summer position and a winter position. iff they are in summer position that when not in use they are almost completely hidden underneath of the trailing edge of the hood. if they are in winter position the resting position is a few inches up and they can be lifted and serviced.

how to change them? if they are in summer mode pull up on them til you hear an alarming sound. if they are in winter mode push down on them til they make an alarming sound. Don't worry, they aren't broken

>>14760580
Most of this shit is hard / annoying because the manufacturers only care about how easy it is to slam together on an assembly line at 100 cars per hour. Who cares what's in the way of the cabin filter, when the HVAC get installed before the dashboard? Who cares that you have to remove the inner fender and a motor mount to change an accessory belt, when the motor is installed with the belt already on it? And so forth.

Generally you are supposed to remove the rad to get off the fan but if you finagle it you can loosen everything up and get it all out simultaneously. Have to be careful or you can end up bending a few vanes on the rad after you force the fan off the water pump.

Or

I almost forgot what a nightmare it was just to change an oil sump on a renault clio mk.1

I can't remember the specifics but it involved removing the front right wheel, the exhaust downpipe, which in it's self is a bitch to get out and a couple of suspension components.

Took me and my father who is competent enough to build his own car, 3 hours to get the thing off only to find that the wrong sump was sent.

Try a Saab 9000 (at least certain years). On mine, I had to remove the Exhaust downpipe, lift the engine out of its mounts and remove one of the mounting brackets so I could pull out the intermediate driveshaft whose tripod joint was blocking access to one (1) last screw to get the oil pan off.

>>

Is there no drain valve on the bottom of the rad?

When doing thermostats I drain what I think will be enough to go below thermostat level and then loosen the bolts on the thermostat housing slowly. If coolant starts coming out, drain some more.

The same rule applies when changing the coil pack, and just as a fuck you, they put the coilpack as close to the valve cover as possible so the heat will get to it and hasten it's demise.

One thing I'll admit I do like is that they seem to be very fond of 10mm bolts. At least on Hondas they do. This goes for their cars as well.

However

>Need to remove cabin fan

To be fair that's not a common fix but to permanently damage something, which seems to have no ill effect is bizarre to say the least. I can only wonder why the made it that way in the first place.

Chrysler occasionally shits out brilliant automobiles. It's all a big gamble. Even if you do your research and purchase the rare Dodge or Jeep that isn't obviously broken the instant you sit in it, chances are someone forgot to torque down a bolt somewhere.

My Xterra has drain/fill plugs on the rear differential that are just square drive. You put in a 3/8" socket driver with no socket on it to turn them.

Works well unless they're fucking fused to the differential. All the other plugs are a 10mm hex.
