I'm thinking about getting pic related in the next couple of years. I could buy it within a year but I'd rather wait until I'm 20 and am more financially secure. I'm 18 right now. Why should I do it?
At this point a lot of them have become project cars and weekend warrior cars since they're more affordable for people in that demographic. In other words, they've been abused. Try to buy one from a geezer if you can. Lower the mileage the better ect. Upside is aftermarket, knowledge, and parts are easy to find and fairly cheap.
>lots of power and torque but not enough to feel frantic
>decent insurance rates due to boomer owners
>mileage good for a V8
>reliable
>pop ups and sleek looks
Absolutely go for it

Are there any years I should look for or avoid?
Go for financial security instead of a rapidly depreciating toy. Why? Because if you are wise and collect Dead Presidents early on you can make the later parts of your life low-stress, FREE, and comfy.
Toys are fun (I collect motorcycles) but they are in some ways a burden so best to get your shit in order first.
One fun game which will serve you well is thinking like a used car dealer. They enjoy many vehicles, make money, and "never marry what they can pimp" in vehicle terms. If you buy and sell for a modest profit you can enjoy MANY vehicles yet be tied to none.

>LPE's 2001 Corvette 427 with 800 Rear-Wheel horse and a twin-turbo accomplished a 1.97 second 0-60 [3] Currently, the most powerful vehicle they have in their stable is a 2006 twin-turbo Corvette Z06 with 1,109 rear wheel horsepower worth $288,540.
Did you even try?
