Which brand of oil do you prefer?
>>
>>14752678
Tesco Value Oil.
>>
>>14752678
Aren't they all the same? It doesn't matter what oil you put in as long as you do it routinely
>>
Anything that has a cool looking label/graphics and is close to the viscosity I need.
>>
>>14752678
Now and again I top my oil up with Guinness.

It does the engine a world of good desu
>>
This, it's always on sale.

AMSOIL is the best.

>Highest TBN
>Group 4 Base Stock Oil (only Mobil1 competes with Group 4 stock, everyone else is Group 3 or lower)
>>
I've been using Redline oils and fluids in all of my roadsters for the last 10 years, never had a hiccup or reason to switch.
>>

Lol no, Mobil 1 and amsoil have the best consistency and highest flash point

It's also got the highest flash point same with mobil1, I know guys that swear by Royal purple but the science backs up amsoil

Mobil 1 EP usually, trying out Pennzoil platinum plus (the natural gas one) for shigs

What does that matter? Can it make my car immortal? I bet you put premium in your 4cyl Honda

Catrol. Don't think anyone else makes 10W60. Royal purple for the motorbike.

Castrol Edge in my Maxima and Crown Vic, 5W50 and 5W40 respectively
Amsoil in my 350z, 5W50.

But seriously, I ran T6 in my Mazdaspeed 3 and it worked fine. But I kinda pussied out on the next oil change and used Pennzoil 5w30 instead,
>>
>>14752868
Sorry but you're wrong. I changed oil and the noise went away permanently for 100k after I started the car the first time. Whats different idk but this is fact.

There is more to oil than simple viscosity ratings.

>>
>>14752859
So you use synthetic on an engine that hasn't had a rebuild?
>>
>>14752919
I know, and you're absolutely right about using it for diesels. I even used it for my dad's 993 because it requires heavier weight.

I have heard of people running it in a Mazda 3 with 0 problems and 15w40 is even a recommended weight for the car in pretty much every other country. I just don't wanna have that be the reason they decline warranty work if something happens to the engine.
>>
Mobil1 0W-40 full synthetic. Nothing else will do in a 9-5, especially in one pre-2004 even with PCV update #6.
>>
>>14752946
Yeah I definitely understand not wanting to void a warranty
>>
>>14752940
Both the Castrol and Mobil 1 were synthetic on a non-rebuilt engine. Mobil tick tick castrol no tick tick. There is more to oil than viscosity ratings for the last time. There is a reason the million dollar pieces of equipment I work with are spec'd to use a specific brand and type of oil.

Hmmm maybe because companies make partnerships with each other all the time to make money?
>Muh Mercedes MOBIL 1 ONLY
>Muh Chevy DEXOS ONLY
>>
>>14753024
Or maybe because composition of trace elements, additive types, and quality control and guarantees are different?

You're pretty dense buddy. For being unable to tell me what all is in a quart of oil you are pretty insistent all are 100% the same.

Tick-tick-tick buddy
>>
Well when I had my subaru I did one oil change with like auto parts store brand of some sort, then for the next 10k I just poured whatever was around, it had some mobile like 20-50 mixed with whatever other random oil. In my Taurus I got a jug of wal-mart 10w-30.
>>
Havoline
>>
>>14753060
I'd use 5W-30 if it were me (like I did back in my own Taurus) but it all kinda depends on where you live. It gets colder near Chicago.
>>
>>14753079
Yeah I live a few hours north of you but its warming up so I figured I would give the 10w-30 a try.

Autism.

They all have an API rating, hence they all have the required additives. You are insecure about your ability to take care of your car and you have to find an outlet to put all of your faith into.

They all aren't the same, thats the whole point. Fact is Mobil 1 caused lifter tick while Castrol Syntec didn't.
>>14753191
Oh so you they meet the same bare minimal requirements? What an amazing concept. They aren't identical in the least. At a level where it matters for a passenger car? It did for one of mine.

Please, get your panties out of a bunch. Two oil changes with Mobil 1 and non stop ticking from first start that went away on first start when changed to Castrol. Don't ask me what is different but in a GCMS i'm damn sure you could find a difference. That said this is the only vehicle i've ever noticed a difference you faggot. My BMW takes Castrol cuz no one else makes 10W60 and my bike gets royal purple because I like the color.

Jesus, I hate all of you.

I use Mobil Delvac in my diesel truck and farm tractor, Liquimoly in the M3, Mobile 1 in the CTS, and NAPA branded dino juice in everything else.

I've got a business account with NAPA, with my discount, they are cheaper than Wal-Mart for store brand oil.

I use NAPA Gold oil filters in everything.

Rotella t3 in my 6.9idi. Amsoil in my ranger. Whatever's cheapest in my w250 until I rebuild the 318, then I'll probably run amsoil.

Anecdotal real life experience. The ticking was unreal. I almost bought new lifters before it was suggested to try a different brand. Fuck me but it actually worked. Don't know what to tell you mr. skeptic but what happened happened.

Good man, good man. Keep it well preserved so I can buy it from you for like $30k one day.
>>
>>14753355
Its blatantly obvious different brands of waters have different mineral and impurity contents causing vastly differing flavors. What a shit example.
>anecdotal
Thats the whole point. A factual, objective, real life experience proved a difference in performance on some level. It is also obvious to all but the most dense that every brand of oil is different, albeit remarkably similar. No two brands are alike.
>>14753373
Whatever helps you sleep at night. The issue was well documented in the 2000s in 4g63t engines. Mobil 1 caused ticking for a lot of users.
>>
>>14753387

Then the problem is with the engine. Not the oil, since the oil is used in many more other engines without issues.
>>
>>14753387
Just because you have a fickle engine requiring a certain synthetic brand or it will make a certain little sound doesn't mean it'll make a difference to anything else in any other conceivable way.
>>
>>14753449
>>14753415
Oh, so that means that oil from different brands is in fact not the same?

Thanks for putting that to rest.
>>14753449
It was serious ticking. This wasn't a subtle thing. Fuck me if I know why I just know it was.
>>
>>14753382
Body is going to rust out in the next few years, after removing the air box I found out a chunk of the engine bay on the sides is just sitting on top of the fender liner.
>>
>>14753543
I SAID PRESERVE IT
>>
>>14753538
Sounds like it stopped after you changed the oil. Doesn't mean anything. You can put Mobil 1 back in and the the engine will not tick. But you won't because it's just a superstition to you.
>>
>>14753625
Like I said two oil changes, that rules out a random fluke. I also haven't been poor enough to drive a Mitsubishi for a long time. Google if you feel like the issue was well documented at the time.
>>
>>14753663
So I'll rephrase then: as long as you don't own this exact model of Mitsubishi that this one anon had then it doesn't matter what oil you use.
