Because a car is more than the way it performs. Its about an experience with the car. That's why people buy Miatas and MR2s, because the experience those cars provide is very very good.
A V8 in a ford just feels right, especially in a car that has historically had one. You want to hear that V8 rumble and scream, not hear a V6 and a couple turbos with a Ford GT.
It'd be like if they'd have made the new Ford Mustang GT a twin turbo V6. I'm sure it would perform just as well or better, but its not about that. I'm not buying it for that, I'm buying it because its a V8 mustang and I'm paying to be included in that heritage and history.
I was considering a Ford GT until I found out it had the V6. Because if I want a Ford GT I want a V8. I want my car to be as similar as possible to the car that was the middle finger up Enzo's ass.
There's more to a car than just its pieces m8. Its the feel, the experience it gives you.

If the car is supposed to be continuing a le mans racer heritage akin to the original GT40 then I think its been doing pretty good. It had a good showing before electrical issues at 24 hours of daytona and recently it performed well at 12 hour of sebring, where it rained a lot during the first quarter of the race. The new fords look competative
