Fine, I give in. I'm going to sell my 30k car that I owe 20k on, and buy a beater. Just want to get all my finances in order, and I don't care about impressing anyone anymore (I'm not in college haha). Wanted a 944 really badly, but everyone said hell no. What about a 300zx?

E46 M3, 2008-2010 135i, 996 911, FC3S RX7 would probably all be more interesting than a 944 or 300zx, but are between the $10k-$15k (and more) for decent examples.

X/1000 = y

X= Number of money you want to spend on car

Solve for y amount of corollas you should buy.

If you can find 10k to spend on an E36 M3 you can get something that has been well taken care of.

They are great cars for hammering on and comfy for long trips.

Are you a DIY kind of anon or do you take cars to shops?
>>
>>14749509

Are all M3's known to be taken care of? Just curious as to what you mean. And I'm a DIY person, but am still a newcomer. I'm not rebuilding a transmission anytime soon.

>Are all M3's known to be taken care of?
Hell no, many are completely trashed. Fortunately these are almost always priced appropriately (cheap) and are easy to spot.

The taken care of ones will have owners that will come out and offer to show you records, or will note in the ad that they have complete records.

10K is about what it costs to get a great condition, 1-3 owner car with around 100k miles and complete or nearly complete records
>>
yes buy a $5000 Z32 and have fun
>>
>>14749570
Maybe a couple years ago it was. Prices are increasing on these. 10k will still get you a good one, but the cherry, trouble free sweety you describe goes for 12-15 now.
>>14749434
Honestly? Spend 5k on a Miata (if you never need space) or a 3 hatch (if you do)

Stick the other 5 k in a retirement account.

I'm also a fan of the datsun look, and am seriously confused by all the 200sz vs 280zx vs Datsun whatever. Aren't datsun and nissan the same company? Any other cars with "edges" to them, hate cars that are round, like most cars are nowadays.
>>

easy

Nissan called their stuff Datsun here in the 60s up to the mid 70s.

240z - 1970-73 - 2.4L I6
260z - 1974 - 2.6L I6 with more agressive emissions crap
280z - 1975-78iirc -2.8L I6 more displacement to deal with power loss from emissions crap

Then it turned into the 280ZX which got more luxurious, and in the 80s they introduced a turbo model.

Basically the idea combo if you want to keep it all in the same family is to have the earliest Z you can find with a 280zx turbo block and head. The blocks and heads from S30 family have different codes that correspond to their type, I can't remember what is what but google should be able to help you there.

>280ZX

Woah. Never heard of the 280zx (just made that up, haha). This car is gorgeous! Let me guess, it'll cost the same amount as the car I'm financing to find one in decent shape. Same story every time, might as well just keep my car, no issues with it so far.
>>
Z32s are fun just make sure you buy a decent one
>>
>>14751125
Nah, you can get into a decent condition 280ZX for probably around $5k to start. They're less desirable than most other Z cars.

Bigger, heavier, & more complex than the earlier Zs (240Z, 260Z, 280Z). Not as powerful as later Zs (300ZX, 350Z, 370Z). Like a lot of performance cars they suffered from emissions regulations and safety laws. While I disagree I think a lot of people also don't like the styling.
>>
>>14751125
Lol you can buy a running driving 280zx for $2,000 all day long... The market hasn't realized these cars yet. I feel like it is going to happen soon though
