Thinking of trading in my 2014 Mustang GT for this Evo. It has had the transmission replaced under warranty by Mitsubishi.

It has about 30k miles and one owner. It's the MR.

I live in the salt belt, so AWD with good tires might be better for DD.
>>
Do it.
>>
>>14749335
>Mitsubishi
Not even once
>>
>>14749335
have you driven it? evos are such turds.
>>
>>14749388
Haha what makes you say that?
>>
>>14749388
How so?
>>
>>14749394
>>14749396

they are good for bench racing and absolutely terrible for driving in these conditions:

>highway speeds
>city speeds
>parking lots
>cruising with qts
>cruising with anybody
>not being loud as hell
>not having the worst interior of any car over $14000

they suck ass at everything but hooning on the toe-gay

so unless you drive a togue to work and back, I would skip it. the mustang is faster in most conditions, much comfier, much more respectable, and much less trash inside.

plus the evo's clutch sucks ass to use.

i test drove one for about 12 miles and was amazed at how shitty it was in every aspect.

Maybe the hoon is worth it, but I doubt it. GTs are pretty fun.
>>
>>14749411
What would you suggest as a good AWD daily that is fun and fairly quick. I wiuld go for an STI but fuck the ringland nonsense.
>>
>>14749703
Not him but either suck it up and get the EVO (it is pretty bad as a DD but the 6 speed MR should be fine unless you want s-class tier comfy) or go for a quattro audi

I really like A6 tdi quattros myself but maybe you wont since you seem to avoid subaru due to reliability issues which audis are also prone of (dunno about subaru though I'm european, no such brand here)
>>
>>14749411
>I test drove

Why are you lying on the internet?

OP don't listen to this faggot get rid of that mustang ASAP
>>
>>14749703
>ringland nonsense
lol'd
>>
>>14749335
Manual or double clutch bs ?
>>
>>14749703
I don't know how much you are considering it, but the Sti has like 17 city gas mileage
>>
>>14749931
MR since the GSR only has 5 gears.
>>
>>14749335
good idea overall, more room too is a plus
>>
OP Here

Apparently the car has aftermarket exhaust and intake. The transmission was replaced 2 weeks ago by Mitsubishi and the dealer who is selling the car actually replaced it and it is still under warranty.

Everything else on the car checks out. Assuming I could get it for 25k, would it be a deal?
>>
>>14750998
>would it be a deal?
everything is a deal if you are trading a mustang
>>
>>14749394
The other kids on the bus said so
>>
Test Drive it.

Personally I would never own one due to the interior being made from melted down McDolands toys.

If you could live with that and the high insurance it would be fun.

Also its a magnet for highschool boys if you into that sort of thing.
>>
>>14751218
I don't really care about interior, as long as the dash rattle isn't ridiculous or is something I can fix.

I'm just a tad worried about the aftermarket mods. I asked the dealer to run a test of some sort to see if the car has an aftermarket tune or not. Obviously if it does that's a deal breaker.

The new tranny that the dealer installed has less than 1k miles, so there is that.
>>
>>14749931
All evox Mr's are dct transmissions. I had one while they do make good DDs for the most part but if you want to do any performance modifications stay away from it. The dct transmission in the evox is extremely weak and is limited to about 325lbs of torque before you start breaking stuff. If you want an Evo you can modify the GSR is the better choice.
>>
>>14749335

If that's the exact Evo you're buying, it's missing the MR BBS wheels.
>>
>>14751428
That isn't the exact one. It's silver with BBS wheels.
>>
>>14751401
OP again. I've literally driven stick maybe 3 or 4 times tops. I can definitely get the car moving, but it'd be jerky as hell. I'm a bit apprehensive of getting a GSR for this reason.
>>
>>14751336
The tune shouldn't be that much of an issue.

However if you do buy the car. I would put the stock airbox back into the engine.

In my experience an aftermarket air intake is never worth it. They always seem to have inferior filtration and little gains.
>>
>>14751464
get the mr and don't go beyond an intake, headers, exhaust, and a conservative tune.

otherwise suck it up and get a gsr and go nuts
>>
>>14749703
Get Taurus awd SHO.
>>
>>14751464
You'll be confident in driving it in under a week. The only way to get better is to do it, and if you can get the car rolling, you're more than halfway there.
>>
i have that exact one in your picture with a built engine and a massive turbo and its a lot of fun

do it

I owned my evoX MR for 3 years and I bought it brand new off the show room floor. During that time I put 31000 miles on it and was extremely active in the evolutionm forum. I would say I know a lot the evoX and TC-SST transmission.

The reason the TC-SST is weak has to do with the clutches and the fact that even 10 years after it's release no one has managed to crack the TCU to proved the necessary tune it needs to allow it to hold more power. The other issue with the TC-SST is getrag the company that makes the transmission for Mitsubishi refuses to sell any replacement parts for it. So if anything goes wrong with it you have to replace the whole unit there is no fixing just one part. Also you have to run Mitsubishi's special DCT Diaqueen fluid. If you try and run any other DTC fluid it will work for a while but over time the fluid will eat way at the electrical components and cause the TCU to fail. No other modern DTC transmission has this problem and it's unique to the TC-SST.

The diaqueen fluid is 250 bucks for 4 liters and the TC-SST requires 8 liters. For comparison the GTR DTC fluid is 38 bucks a liter.
>>
>>14752137
Hmm, i've read about that fluid being expensive. I'm thinking I might instead go with the GSR since it sounds like it'll be a tad cheaper in the long run.
>>
>>14752171
I work at a mitsu dealer. I replaced an TC-SST transmission in a lancer ralliart (2012 or 2013 with only 40k kilometres) 2 or 3 months ago. it had some weird internal transmission plausibility DTC. Mitsu diagnostics for that specific DTC was step 1, check the usual shit, no faults? Step 2 Replace transaxle

Its heavy as fuck and shoehorned in there. It was free for the customer, so I guess he didn't care. Those transmissions blow because people beat the fuck out'em expecting something else to happen. Holding both pedals, having it rev to like 3k and then releasing the brake. Fun for shits n giggles till you're out of warranty.

No internal serviceable items other than axle seals, pan cover and the internal TCM/mechatronic unit.

Personally I'd go for the GSR. I'm a bit of a purist/faggot cause I'd rather have a car with 3 pedals even if the DCT/automatic one is slightly faster.

Also they extended the warranty on the commonly failing ayc/acd pumps.
100k miles/10 years. If you're in the salt belt they'll fail every 3-5 years or so
>>
>>14752277
Is there an aftermarket one you can get that won't fail as often?

Also, is the GSR "drone" at highway speeds really that bad?
>>
>>14752137
if you think having transmission parts fabricated isnt possible for a low cost you are mistaken you just are a sheep and a pleb and need everything to be spoonfed to you as oposed to coming up with solutions on your own

none that I'm aware of. We had a customer have a crazy internal transmission failureon an 08 evo MR, ended up sending his transmission to be rebuilt in some shop out in Colorado. Ended up working but his car was long out of warranty and ended up sitting in a lot for 6-8 months.

Still cheaper than buying a 17k tranny.

if GSR drone is relatively short gearing and high revs in 5th on the highway, then its not that bad. if you have an aftermarket exhaust with a test pipe, then that's another situation all together.

Then again I used to own an integra GSR so I'm used to high revs on the highway

I know exactly what shop you sent that transmission to. The shops name is Jacks transmission they are one of the 3 shops in the states that specialize in working on DTC transmissions. The other 2 shops are southside performance in Houston and sheps transmission in Ohio. Of those 3 I think jacks in the only one that can fully rebuild the TC-SST the other 2 shops have limitations on what they can fix.

From what I remember reading Jacks transmission somehow found the suppliers that getrag used to build the TC-SST and went directly to them for parts and bypass getrag altogether.

If you could find a police package Taurus with AWD at auction that could be worth it for half the price of a Charger...but they're few and far between on the used market yet

And yea buying an SHO Taurus instead of a Charger R/T would be highly regrettable

The interior is shit and will rattle apart faster than that rusted to Hell undercarriage that will give you tetanus just from breathing near it.

Seriously, sit in the car once before the fapping.

Any Mustang is a better build quality than this tarted up shitbox.

Hell fucking no.

Underrated post.

>>14751695

You would rather have a basic-ass cheaply made econobox over a luxury sedan?

Ironically the Taurus has a smaller turning radius and better fuel economy.

>>14752824

I like how the Taurus is a UNIBODY and can take the curb hop test waaaaaay better than that Chrysler truck thing..
>>
>>14755615
Why not? If they used quality aftermarket parts what is the issue?

I have a 2012 Lancer.

Not an evo but the AWD system is great. Even here in the north where we 17 inches isn't uncommon in October. Get some good tires.
