Low test confirmed. I bet you don't even go to the Grand Canyon doing 0-200 mph pulls to make your high test babies laugh.

It's called a "family vehicle" so that your wife won't throw a shitfit when you buy it.

Compression ratios mean efficiency. Even with the expense of higher rated fuel, you're saving money on lower consumption.
>>
>>14748851

This.

People who bitch about octane requirements don't know shit about engines.

The difference between 87 and 91 is usually like $3 a tank or less. Who the fuck gets bent out of shape over $3 a tank?
>>
>>14749878

youre fucking retarded
>>
>>14749883
>poorfag that cant afford $3 a week for a more efficient and powerful engine.
>>
>>14749878
Try $20.

Canadaland here, 87 is $1.05/litre, 91 is $1.35 .
>>
>>14750008

lolno, you're just retarded.
>>
>>14749878
Wrong. Go ask an automotive expert and he'll tell you that modern engine management systems can tune themselves to adapt to different octane fuels. Even if the car requires high octane gas, you can still put regular in it and save $10 per fill up without harming the engine because the ECU adjusts for the difference.

>>
>>14750056
Yup and then you'll get lower fuel economy. So enjoy getting worse performance just so you can think you saved 10 bucks at the pump when you need to fill up again a few days earlier than normal.
>>
>>14750056
What exactly does this have to do with anything I said you illiterate retard?

Anyway, using fuel below the octane requirement causes the ECU to run richer mixtures and pull timing. to make up for the lack of detonation resistance. In which case your engine will run less efficiently than if it was running the correct octane fuel.
>>
It's 2016 and people on an automotive enthusiasts forum still don't know about octane ratings
>>
>>14750105
>muh fuel economy
The video I posted debunked that as well. There is no difference in fuel economy between regular and premium in their test.
>>
Why not high compression with regular gas?
>>
>>14750114
The point is that automotive experts, who DO know engines, recommend putting in regular gas regardless of what the manufacturer recommends. Modern ECUs can adapt and run different octane ratings just fine. Save your money and just put regular in everything.
>>
>>14750056
Where do you get 10 bucks a tank. Theres normally like 20 cents a gallon difference between 87 and 91. It would take 50 galloms to get there. Most tanks are 14 to 18 gallons for cars. Its more like 3 bucks a tank.

Yes new cars can run either but most come with a disclaimer that says youll lose power and efficiency by running lower octane. Its really not worth the trade off.
>>
>>14750157
>The point is that automotive experts, who DO know engines, recommend putting in regular gas regardless of what the manufacturer recommends.
No they fucking don't.

>Modern ECUs can adapt and run different octane ratings just fine.
You're stupid.

The way they do that is by pulling out ignition timing and increasing fuel ratios, or reducing boost pressure on forced induction engines. Which reduces efficiency.

At puttering around town or cruising on the highway when fuel economy is typically measured this might not be much of an issue as the detonation threshold isn't being reached for that motor.

But under high load situations reduced timing, richer air:fuel ratios, and reduced boost pressure reduce engine performance and efficiency.

If you put a lower octane fuel in the tank than what is recommended, especially on a performance or turbocharged engine, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

You're just too much of a dumb ass and don't know how engines work to realize this.
>>
>>14750222
>Which reduces efficiency.
So why doesn't it work that way in empirical testing?
>>
>>14750192
It's a 30 cent per litre difference in Canada, the price difference will be $10 after 33 litres.
>>
>>14750267
33 litre is nothing as well. An Accord's tank can take 60 litre easily
>>
>>14750288
Right, so make that $20 per tank saved when filling up with regular.
>>
>>14750259
Because there is more to efficiency of a powertrain than MPG numbers you simple minded retard.

>>14750192
>>14750267
>>14750288

So don't live in a shit flyover country.

It's $0.2 per gallon difference which comes out to just over $3 for a 16 gallon tank.

so i have 6 vehicles that have 3 different fuel requirements 87, 91 and diesel

there are sometimes 4 types of fuel at the gas station.. some middle grade between 87 and 91.. what is this and who the fuck buys it?

>>14751921
I think it's just a mix of 87 and 91, and I don't know why anyone would buy it
