True story - while in Uni here in Canada (6-7 years ago) I was part of a street racing crew. We used to do mountain runs up the Gats (Samuel Du Champlain Mountain - Gatineau Hills) and go to St. Eustache to drift for fun. We drifted on the street, and did a lot of top speed races on the 407.
Most of us drove JDM cars. FD3S RX-7, Nissan Skyline BN32 GT-R (me), Nissan Fairlady Z32 (also me), AE86 Levin, ECR33 GTS-t, HCR32 GTS-t, Chaser, FC3S, Toyota Supra JZA80, and S13's up the whazoo.
I knew a few guys with GTi-R's.
All of them hated their cars.
Overheating was a common issue. SR20DET's have a poorly designed head, but the SR's in the GTi-R were made worse by having an intercooler on top of the valve cover. You could do front mount, but now you had an engine that was designed to be mounted longitudinally, sitting in a tight horizontal space... which also provided issues galore.
Honestly, not many of these are left for good reason. They were a nightmare to repair, and a pain in the ass to keep running without overheating.
Cool design, poor execution.
>>14743669
They're even rare in japan
>>14743669
Quite common in new zealand, younger brother crashed his gtst (pic related) and once insurance pays out hes planning on buying a gtir, its had a full rebuild link ecu running at 230kw at 14psi, trying to convince him to buy something else but he seems pretty set on the gtir unfortunately
>>14743699
>chaser
>in Quebec
There are only a select few of them and they're mostly all owned by one guy
>>14743669
Because I have a Pulsar NX
>>14743699
proofs?
>>14743671
>>14743670
ITT 'mericucks and sour grapes
Gtirs are also very nose heavy. Look at the engine location. In jap domestic rally scene it was known as the 'lead tipped arrow'
>>14745672
>those tail lights
>>14743699
I can smell the bullshit transmitting over TCP/IP
>>14743669
>rare and becoming rarer so parts that are GTi-R specific will dry up soon
>glass gearbox
>bonnet scoop leaks water into the engine bay (bad if you have a front-mount intercooler)
>most (if not all) examples are thrashed to fuck and/or are badly modified
I like them and think they're pretty cool but I don't reckon I'd own one honestly.
>>14743699
>BN32
found the fake
>>14743669
Because it looks unappealing. If I wanted a 'hot hatch', I'd buy a Golf R.
>>14743699
>>14743669
>less power and even more delicate transmissions than a subaru
>>14743690
Exactly.
US gets revised import laws and all of a sudden these tired old outdated 90's Jap hero cars (as good as they were 25 years ago) get forced back into the spotlight... while the rest of the planet has moved on.
>>14748334
>moved on
To what? Australian car scene is literally old imports, commodores and coons, and old blokes with aussie muscle. Literally nothing in the last 15 years is very popular unless you like subarus or evo's.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_scrappage_scheme
Because of this. Anything decent from the 90's is now a tin can, and the survivors are either fucked or overpriced hurr durr "drift missiles".
God forbid if you want a true meme-machine like a AE86/R33 GTR/Supra turbo - i've seen tofu dorifto-missles going for £15,000-£20,000
That scheme was absolute fucking cancer, people scrapping Escort RS turbo's to put a deposit down on some SUV/crossover shitbox (and inevitably killing themselves once they saw the resale value of an RST without any rust).
One cunt even scrapped a fucking Delorean. Fuck this country.
So to answer your question OP, it's because if i want one that hasn't been "CHIPPED INNIT" and hasn't seen an oil change in 20 years i'll have to pay more than a fucking porsche boxter.
>yes, i'm mad
>>14743699
>BN32
>GTi-R
>'racing crew'
fuck right off 14 year old
I would rather have a 323 gtr
Unreliable and impossible to find parts for
Nissan made them for homologation purpose only and couldn't give two fucks about it as a street car
That said they are still superb cars. With a big enough budget
>>14748443
verry similar problems sadly GF had laser TX3 (ford/mazda) glass gbox
All of them are thrashed and good luck finding parts.
>>14743669
They where pretty cool when they worked and a lot of fun at track days.
>Chasing me in the Skyline
>Damn, they're quick
>GTiR revving the fucking nuts off it
>Engine explodes
>Oil shits itself over the windscreen via the dumb hood vents
>Can't see
>lol crash
The WRX was a better car all around and I don't even like Subarus.

>THE SALESMAN TOLD ME THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN
>>14748334
What are these revised import laws? Hasn't the 25 year law been in place for a while?
>>14745647
this would be munkfu
>>14743669
I just don't like the look of them.
>>14743669
I was ... in 2001. That's now a 25 year old car and there are probably none that have not been thrashed within an inch of their life.
I certainly thrashed the fuck out of mine.
>>14743669
I like not shitting gearboxes and spinning bearings
>>14743699
bullshit the post
