Peugeot build quality is very decent on their latest generation. The issue is the RCZ is based on the slightly older generation which is pigfat ugly 308 and not "totally not a golf" 308.
That said, the RCZ is a car which looks great on picture, probably performs well, but looks worse in real than in pictures. The top half of the car is great, but the bottom half is too much of the pigfat 308 and doesn't look good.

I've driven the RCZ a couple of times and you're right, you do notice that it's just a 308, worst case could be that it's a diesel 308 you're driving around in. But I think it looks absolutely amazing in person. I was driving on the motorway in it and a woman in the car next to me was taking a picture of it and her boyfriend was not too happy and tried overtaking me but he was in a Mk4 Golf so that didn't happen.
Rear headroom is stupid though, they might as well just make it a two seater

I somewhat agree with the X type increasing overall reliability, but on the other hand I have owned a 90's XJ6 myself for almost 5 years and I've had virtually zero problems. A friend of mine owns an XK8 and also no major issues, so anecdotal evidence is anecdotal after all.
That's not to say they are cheap to maintain, because they are not, but let's not confuse high maintenance costs with reliability. I'm fairly sure that a lot of "unreliable" Jags are breaking down because the owners neglect the upkeep since it's rather expensive. No "euro elitism", just common sense here.
