I've been in a S60R yesterday, and a 3er today. The 60 felt smaller on the inside, and is about as big externally. No way it can compete with a 5er.

I own neither but I've driven both. I'd take the S-class by simple virtue of the fact that it isn't the 7 series. Neither are truly "bad" cars. I'd still take a 7 series if it was offered to me, but the motherfucker is just too goddamn complex and "high-tech" for a luxury car. I enjoy gadgets but the first time I got in one it took me 6 minutes to figure out how to shut it off once I'd parked.
