at lest it got some weird suspension system to make it more distinct

Well, no one's implied anything.

An alternative, better way to start off a thread like this would've been your run-of-the-mill "Prove me wrong, /o/."

But yes, it is truly the best super car ever made.
>>
>>14742156
You forgot to mention
>fastest naturally aspirated engine
>won le mans beating prototypes
It is indeed the best supercar of all time

Fastest N/A car in the World, and was the fastest production car period for something like twenty years until the Boogady finally dethroned it.

Great anon. Then I'll post a 918 or a La Ferrari or a P1 which are way faster than the F1...

"Best" doesn't mean "fastest ever".
>>
>>14742695
Explain how a car with less feel, less involvement, poor fit and finish, less power is better.

I think the f40 is incredible don't get me wrong but the F1 is a step above. The f40 didn't even make the podium in EVO,s analogue super car test
>>
>>14745288
It was the first racecar designed for the road and came on the market a few years before the F1 (which is one of the best without a doubt).
>>
>>14745264
>"Best" doesn't mean "fastest ever".

That doesn't mean anything in a race.

I think you can't compare them, either. The F1 is the next generation of supercars in my opinion, or even defined a new category: the hyper car.

I'd rather have an F40 though, maybe because of the childhood pictures, the matchbox cars and all the fuzz about it's insane amount of horsepower as a child, when my dad's car didn't even have 3-digit-figures regarding horsepower.

For me the F40 was the first real supercar, along with the Porsche 959. Then came the next generation, the McLaren F1, which is an awesome piece of engineering, I have to admit. The F1 was out of competitors I guess, maybe the Jaguar XJ220, but never the Diablo or an F50.

The next generation brought the electronic gizmos, in the McLaren SLR, the Enzo or the Porsche Carrera GT, which was my favourite of that time and now we have another trinity with the P1, the 918 and the LaFerrari, which push the envelope with their hybrid drives.

Maybe the next generation will feature a complete new drivetrain concept, but the "analogue time" seems to have ended or at least cannot keep up with current gen supercars anymore, if you like it or not.

i think the only true competitors of the Mclaren F1 were the CLK GTR and the Bugatti EB110, but the F1 is still better than thoses

>It was the first racecar designed for the road

Wrong.

The F40 was never designed to be competitively raced. The earliest known F40 racecar was in October 1989 in the IMSA GTO series where a privately prepared F40 was raced. A second car would be prepared for the 1990 season. The first officially facotry-backed F40 didn't make its competitive debut until April 1994 in the International GT Endurance Series -- two years after production of the roadcar ceased.

I didn't even know they had 3 seats until recently. That's my favorite thing about the car.

Not even close. Throughout the mid-20th century sportscars were racecars. The races weren't heavily regulated it was possible to enter a sportscar into a race just as it was.

The Ameritech F1 roadcars had just the one drivers seat. However you are not going to find any that are still in their Ameritech configuration as the cars 7 cars that had the conversion done for road legality, they modifications were fairly easy to undo after the cars got registered. However, not all roadcars underwent the Ameritech conversions in were probably just passed off in their European spec with some legal paper kung-fu.

Exterior shot of the Ameritech F1. Note the bumper and headlights. You can't see from the pic, but there was also a rear bumper.

F2002=racecar
F40=racecar for the road

The F40 is known to be very reliable.
>>
>>14745428
Enzo himself wanted a racecar for the road.

"As early as 1984, the Maranello factory had begun development of an evolution model of the 288 GTO intended to compete against the Porsche 959 in FIA Group B. However, when the FIA brought an end to the Group B category for the 1986 season, Enzo Ferrari was left with five 288 GTO Evoluzione development cars, and no series in which to campaign them. Enzo's desire to leave a legacy in his final supercar allowed the Evoluzione program to be further developed to produce a car exclusively for road use."

F2002 has nothing to do with F40 vs F1.

You are just propping up a strawman for no reason.
>>
>>14748638
>further developed to produce a car exclusively for road use.

That's the key phrase. It was developed for road use, not for racing.

Who the hell has ever actually tested the reliability of an F40? They're Ferraris; they stay in garages and get driven 500 miles a year.
