Can we get a pickup truck thread going? Today is not a very good day and pickup trucks make me feel nice.

The stock-er the better.

Pic related, it's my personal ride.

Anyone have experience with the Nissan Navara? Looking at trucks to replace my sedan, and compared to the HiLux its more reasonably priced, has more power and a 800kg increase in tow rating.

If anything its going to be a late D22/very early D40 with the 2.5 YD diesel, two seater single cab/extended cab with a manual gearbox
>>
>>14731529
Mines an 03 with 320XXXkm on it.
That 4.8 smallblock is a very nice engine desu and 4x4 is also incredible to have, especially where I live.

>>14731542
What's in it?

>>14731560
Sorry, family. I'm a GM guy. The Navara looks nice tho.

It does, but I've just heard a few bad things (timing issues, really shitty glow plugs, interior electrics) from a few buddies who work as mechanics/body fixers

The way I look at it;
>Navara
Decently priced, good power, 3 ton tow rating and doesn't look too bad reliaiblity-wise
>HiLux
Hold their value insanely well here, Toyota reliability and super easy to work on. Drawbacks are the weaker engine, 2.2 ton tow rating and that they are priced a bit tall compared to other trucks when talking about condition/age
>Ford Ranger/Mazda BT50
They are rare here, and the ones that will be in my price-area will be the early 2000-ones that are usually completely fucked up
>Isuzu D-Max
My number one pick. 3.5 ton tow rating, great reliability and there is a damned lot of them here now as they've been outselling pretty much anything the past few years. They've had a few issues with the automatic gearboxes when it gets really cold, but as I'm only going manual for a truck like this that won't be a problem

These are pretty much my only options. I've looked into Mitsubishi L200's, but they are rare and usually priced way too high for no apparent reason. 'murican trucks drink too much fuel and are most often registered as "light trucks" here so I'll have to get another license to drive them. If they are registered as a normal "car" then I will not be able to utilize their full load and towing capacity, meaning that there isn't actually a point in owning one
>>
Not American here. Why isn't the Toyota Hilux more popular in uses other than Jihad and UN peacekeeping?
>>
>>14731799

It is just I see other pickup trucks are more popular here. Is a Toyota pickup truck worse than other ones in some areas?

It's interesting you state the Hilux has a "weaker engine" yet you're considering a YD25 Navara. Did your Hiluxs not come with the 1KD 3.0L?
My biggest criticism with the later Navaras is they're absolutely weedy without turbo pressure, and pretty laggy too.
My favourite mid size pickup in recent years would be the ML Triton/L200 with the 4M41 3.2, although here they were replaced in 2009 with an MN that was powered by a high output version of the 4D56 which I reckon is even worse than Nissan's YD25.
You're right about the D-Max. Out of all the brand new mid pickups, the D-Max is my pick. The 5 cylinder Ford/Mazdas are decent too from what I've sampled.
>>
>>14731482
Weather finally cleared up lately, finally washed the truck and pressure washed the dirt out of the paint, paint has zero clear coat and is pitted all over, so it turns a nice brownish gray during winter from the shit off the roads.

>used bleche-wite on all the paint
>it actually fucking worked gloriously lol

Tfw new motor and trans are going in soon, just a week and a half to go.

Ah, fair enough. It's a shame as the 3.0L 1KD version is a damn gutsy responsive engine.

TFW the new 6th gear is useless unless coasting because the power is limited before the gears potential.
Thanks Ford.

If you're worried about gas mileage when buying a truck, you don't need a truck. Stay away from both, and go V8. But if you can't get the 3.5

>>
>>14731799
Because during the 1970's Toyota cornered the Middle Eastern market and took African 4x4 sales from Land Rover and are now the most prevalent option. That's why every time you see Arabs living somewhere else they'll usually drive Toyotas, because it's what their use to.

Okay, I need some help with this tall order: My father is retiring soon, and shared with me his wish to find a small pickup with a 6' bed. Then he tells me it has to be 2004 or newer, 4wd or 4x4, manual, can't be a dodge, and has to have a regular cab.

I'm drawing a huge blank here. I don't think they make small pickups with regular cabs anymore, much less in a 4x4 manual. Does anyone some pickups that meet that criteria? I offered up a baja when he first gave his rough draft of criteria but then he went and added the 6' bed to the list (can't be bothered to use a trailer, apparently).

The truck will be used as a wood getter, a 4wheeler hauler, and a boat tower which includes backing it into the lake (which is why he wants 4wd in the first place).

You guys think a 98 ram would make a good go kart?

>5.2L V8 probably still gives about 190 horsepower to the wheels
>RWD only so I can run different tire sizes on front to rear axles
>take the body off, not a ton of electronics to worry about protecting
>fab up a shitty custom roll bar

Would be pretty cool right?

Right now the heater core is fucked and it runs a little rough sometimes. Transmission seems to act up sometimes.

I'd use them for more tie down points. So they won't just tear off when I put any kind of tension on them? I'm also getting a headache rack at some point.

I guess the taco had a regular cab pre 2015, but I've never seen one and there's none in MT. I think the frontier only has a crew/king setup as well. Yea, I think he's gonna have to make a sacrifice somewhere, and I think autotragic is the most reasonable with a 6' bed being a close second. I wanted to get him a truck as a gift without telling him, but he's delusional atm, and I don't want to get him something only for him to turn his nose up at it.
