just bought a used ml320cdi and holy fuck what a piece of shit, I should have done my research this tranny is a piece of fucking shit, the comand system seemed to work fine turns out one of the modules or something is fucked and the cunts used OPTICAL FUCKING FIBER to connect the modules together. The liftgate didin't work so figured it was the pump/motor and sure enough it was rusty as fuck, managed to fix that and then realized the module is missing THE FUCKING LIFTGATE HAS ITS OWN MODULE

Fuck my life I should've gotten the grand cherokee diesel. All I wanted was a diesel suv anon's

>>
>>14730415
then you fucked yourself over. you were told the risks of buying a auction car. you are better off selling it. MB diesels are a pain in the ass and expensive to fix because aftermarket parts never work on mercedes. its your fault, not mercedes
>>
>>14730432
Any other car this would be an easy job but now ive gotta get a module for 600 and program it

Ive heard stories but never imagined ot would be this fucking awful, fuck this company and their shitty fucking cars

>>
>>14730448

they're not bad but this is why smart people lease them. Mb doesnt hold its value. newer benzs are build for profit not to last unlike their older models from the 19th century. take your lose and get rid of it. good luck OP

This is why I am going to get a grand cherokee next, the 3.0 crd 0m642 is pretty decent, the NAG2 trans is pretty decent and it doesn't have any over complicated shit like the ml, plus the Cherokee parts are easy to source.

You are like, double-retarded. CHRYSLER makes shit vehicles, ALL of them. Don't start in with the "well da diesels r gud" horseshit, EVERY SINGLE VEHICLE they make is FUCKING GARBAGE. ALL OF THEM. EVERY ONE.

Chrysler's shit reliability is NOT a fucking meme, there's a VERY good reason why they have that reputation. It's been earned through decades of horribly designed, cheaply produced, and shoddily built vehicles. Now that FIAT (the Chrysler of Europe) owns them, there is little reason to expect anything but pure failure.

Honestly I just don't understand how some people can be so fucking stupid. Buying a used Mercedes from an auction is almost the most retarded thing you could do, but topping it off by purchasing a Chrysler product is pushing the limits of human retardation.

The FJ is about 100x better than your Mercedes, and about 1000x better than a Grand Cherokee.

Too bad they're not selling them in north america anymore, so prices have leveled out and you're gonna pay 15 grand for one with 200,000 miles. Also no diesel models for you, only gasoline. Newer ones run on regular 87, older models were calibrated to run on premium 91.

But they will never die, and they will absolutely slaughter any vehicle off-road. A heavily modified Wrangler is still a worthy offroader, but the modern Wranglers, stock, are fucking baby toy mallcrawlers.

>buying a high risk auction car when you don't know much about the car you're buying, nor have the ability to inspect it properly
Not normally one to take a shit on people, but you asked for this OP.

The fiber optic connects really aren't even that bad. And yes the liftgate will have a module. Guess what, all the doors have a module too. If the liftgate is missing a module, the car was likely pillaged for parts before it was sent to auction, so expect other shit to be out line

You should have gone with a first gen and just gotten the V8, I've never had a problem from my '01 ML 430

Trade-ins you fucking degenerate.

Unless you're talking about buying a used car from a USED CAR dealer, in which case you deserve to get fucked. Used car dealers are all shady as fuck, if you're buying used you buy something that was traded in at a REPUTABLE, NEW CAR dealership, or you buy privately from the owner. Anything else is basically throwing your money in the toilet.

>in my defense the auction did not mention any of the issues in the pre sale AND post sale inspection but its pointless to try to do anything now.
As someone who's bought several cars from auctions man, you never, EVER put much stock into auction announcements (or lack thereof). A decent scan tool would have told you about the missing module (and likely about any issues with the command system) in about 5 minutes.

The Honda Pilot my wife now drives was an auction car that was listed as "does not start/no runner". It just needed a new battery and starter. It's super easy to get burned on auction cars if you don't stick to cars you are extremely familiar with, or if you don't have the tools/knowledge to evaluate them yourself on the fly

My neighbors bought an early 00's 4 door merc that is rusty as hell. Growing up in the midwest, I'm used to seeing rocker panel rot and fender rot, but this thing has rust at every joint in the body.

I'm talking rust around the gas door opening, rust around he trunk key hole, rust creeping out from both sides of the door bumper strip. It's like this thing sat at the bottom of the ocean for a month. What makes it more strange is that this is in the las vegas area, so it has to be from somewhere up north.

That thing is a total shit box too, they've had to tow it home 3 times since they bought it. That thing spends more time collecting dust in the driveway than it does on the road.

I'll stick with my Ford and Chevys thanks. At least I can go down to any auto parts store and get repair parts immediately for them.

So the 20 odd photos and pre and post sale inspections including tire tread measurement, body panel inspection etc (albeit poorly done) are a figment of my imagination? Adesa auctions are pretty fucking legit, the toronto one is anyway, Ottawa and Quebec can go either way in my experience.

>>14731818
Not to throw gas on the fire, but even small time public auctions here usually announce tire tread (because it's relevant to passing state inspection), and body condition (any panels with rust, any panels with fucked paint, any panels with damage).

If the check engine light is on, it will be run with with a "major engine defect" announcement, which again, tells you fucking nothing because it could be anything that trip[s a CEL

Sometimes, if the dealership/individual who sent the car to the auction noted it you will get a "major transmission defect", but since you can't drive them, you can't put much stock into that either. Could be that it just shift's a little hard from 1st to 2nd, it doesn't go into reverse, or that the entire tranny is fucked.
