There are 3 brands : Peugeot, Renault, Citroën.

I don't think I've seen a 205 in like five years, and where I'm from they were everywhere back in the day. They've all been scrapped because of said reliability. I see cars from other brands from same generation and segment regularly.
Some are great, some aren't.

French cars used to be great. Think Alpine-Renault, Citroën's hydropneumatic suspension, Talbot, etc.

I love the Peugeot hot hatches, like the 306. I only really like the Turbo 5 from Renault, but I do like Megane styling a little bit. Don't care about Citroen though.
Horrible exteriors. The demands and fuel consumption of that market are different so cars shouldn't really be compared on speed.
1984 to 1997 was the golden era of Renault IMO.

Not him but an old Renault gave his life in order to save mine too. First gen Laguna wagon, shitfaced after an evening with some friends, decided to go breathe some fresh air driving at night on local windy roads. Every country has cars that range from good to bad, I really don't use country of origin as a deciding factor of good or bad cars, hell even the same manufacturers vary from shit to great.
