Is this a bad deal?

I'm willing to wrench if necessary but I don't know a whole lot about Audis. Are they as expensive to maintain as BMW/Benz?
>>
Yeah they're expensive to maintain. Nearby shop to me quoted me $1600 in parts/labor to do my timing belt, water pump, thermostat, idler, and tensioner. This was the best quote that I got within 100 miles of me. That's about half of the car's current blue book value.
>>
>>14728856
That's a bretty gud deal actually. It ain't any cheaper with a jap car to do all that.
>>
>>14728435
its a fancy VW
it is not remotely in the same class as bmw or mb
>>
>>14728860
Perhaps it's just high to me because I did the work myself. I REALLY didn't want to so I went quote shopping so I could continue being lazy. But for someone not comfortable with removing the entire front of the car it might not be such a great idea.
>>
>>14728873
Nah..the front fenders and bumper are made to be taken off easily.
>>
>>14728902
I agree that it's not hard to do, but it certainly is time consuming. It really depends on your level of aptitude. Maybe it's just the people that work on their own cars that I know (I can tell you they probably shouldn't), but they'd take one look at a timing belt and just say "Nope." And forget about it

>old AWD Audi with a turbo

that's like the worst reliability nightmare
>>
>>14728963
>turbo
Retard.
>listen to me I know all about Audis

Germon here. Can confirm the maintenance expenses.

Seriously, why in hell would you americans buy these unspectacular cars, when you have so many american and jap shit, that can be run much cheaper.

>quoted me $1600 in parts/labor to do my timing belt, water pump
I drive the a4 b6, when my plastic(lol) waterpump cracked, my dad and i had to remove the whole front to get to the timingbelt and pump.
In the shop, they would have raped us with the bill.

>>14728435
>quattro audi

Yeah, get it, Because you dumb bitch need that awd SOO much. It sure does not add more weight, worse mpg and more parts to fail.
>>
I like the 2008+ A5, A7 and TT (and their sports models) especially the unique look of A7.

But they are very much just VW. Theyre expensive for what they are imho.
They use same material and shit that VW uses. If somethings break, you can actually use vw parts if you got correct parts numbers and get stuff for over 50% cheaper.
They are literally the same just under another name
>>
>>14728968
I bet you know a lot about audis then, huh.

Yes, the turbo on those engines is reliable and does not cause problems.
My dad drives a 07 a4 avant, tdi, 140 hp, manual, fwd.
>over 200K km
>turbo and motor still work like a charm

BUT, what the other anon meant was, at some time even the audi tarbo will fail. It just adds unnecessary future costs.

I drive this>>14729874
>131 hp na, 2.0 liter.
No problem, motor handles the mass very well.
Testdrove the 1.8t before i got the na. You don't need the turbo and 150hp to drive to work and back. mpg is worse in the 1.8.

And for having fun, the 150 hp just don't do shit.
>>
>>14728435
>Are they as expensive to maintain as BMW/Benz?
They're worse, because they cost the same to fix as a Benz/BMW but will break down as often as any VW.
>>
>>14728435
Avoid like the plague. Worst of all the German brands.
>>
>>14730023
>Worst of all the German brands.

Yeah, until you pay for benz maintenance.
Stop pretending you know things.

if you take an audi a6, a benz e class and a bimmer 5 series to a shot and do the same service on them, audi will be the cheapest.

All german cars are expensive to maintain, if you get the luxury trim, stuffed with shit that breaks. And all german cars are expensive to maintain in america.
Just don't buy them there, shit doesn't make sense.

Same thing like i would buy a dodge challenger from the seventies here in germany and then wonder why spareparts cost so much.

Just get an audi 100. My dad drove it.
>sold it for 1000€ with 330K km
>still original tranny
>suspension original, only started to show first signs of wear, still could have gone for 20K km more

Just get the 2.3, na 133hp.
NO quattro bs! And get it as a manual, if you can.

Godlike car, and looks a lot better than that dogshit a4.
>>
>>14728860
you are an idiot.
>>
Well lets see: 2005.5 A4 quattro
>sump oil filter blocked, engine stops $600.00
>water pump + radiator $1300
>radiator again & fucking fan, hoses ect $2500
>blown turbo $3500.00 for after market turbo, OEM was like $5k
>$500 for breaks and rotors (each for front and back)
These are Ausfag prices. Fuck these cars, I fell for the euro car meme HARD and fucking regret it.

Oh man you amerifats with your pleblems.
>B5 A4
>850€
>249kkm
>everything works
>easy to maintain
>affordable even on a student budget
>IME more reliable than any car any of my friends drive, on par in reliability with friends B6 (measured by breakdowns on the road [mine 0])
>>
>>14734431
lol at ausfag, serves you right cunt. Also, learn to DIY or prepare to pay low-IQ greasemonkeys for easy work for the rest of your crocodile-dundee life.
>>
>>14729874
I drive the same car as you (same colour and same rims). A4 B6 1.9TDi 131hp.
Actually, it is such a nice daily driver. Would buy again, maintenance is not very expensive and it has been pretty reliable so far!
>>
>>14734533
>B5 A4 (1997)
>1000€ when I bought it 5 years ago with 178KKM on it
>the only thing that broke was the muffler which leaked and became noisy

Also,
>buying Euro cars in US
>>
>>14737061
i own 2001 audi b5 a4 avant 2.8 5 speed quattro and i bought it in the US because american cars are shit and there are no good estate cars here besides euro cars.
>>
>>14730097
they dont have these in US i believe, or theyre rare and so the parts are expensive

Honestly looks like a shitty ad, I'd avoid it.

The guy I bought it from had a detailed, long ad with full history of the car. It had 100,000 miles and it was $2800.
Most expensive fix was a $1000 steering pump/tensioner
$600 leaky valve gasket job
That's it for a year of ownership
>>
>>14728435

they aren't that bad. but why buy an audi when you live in fl?? shit if i lived there i'd drive strictly RWD
>>
>>14738471
why are you so fucking stupid to pay some inbred to work on your car for those prices. new power steering pump is like 300 . complete top end reseal kit is 80 fucking dollars fuck paying 600 for some easy fucking gaskets >>14738384
i did the timing belt on my audi a4 and the kit itself was 135 and all the little bits to replace made it 300 for everything
>>
>>14738567
Labor was the lot of it.
I'm not in the place to do my own car work.
>>
>>14738384
why are you on this board if you cant work on your own shit
>>
>>14738585
Oh I'm capable, I just didn't feel like doing it at the time.
>>
>Car runs and good has about 170 mile
>silver color outside
>black inside
>missing radio

Judging by the grammar of the seller and the picture provided (or lack thereof), I'd say skip it. If they maintained it right, they would bother to say more than that, plus why the hell is the radio missing?
>>
>>14738583
>>14738593
excuses
>>
>>14738610
Nope. I don't have to do everything to my own car, I can afford not to, so I just do the fun stuff. Fabricating, tuning, etc.
>>
>>14738585
>thinking this board is about fixing your car
you took a wrong turn pal
>>
>>14738610
Yeah good ones. Live in apt, no space to do it, and honestly I don't wanna do it. Rather be at peace and know I didn't make a mistake
>>
>>14738773
>Rather be at peace and know I didn't make a mistake
the same reason i pass up on doing really serious work on my car. i do other shit like oil changes and all the filters and occasionally some wheel shit but thats about it.
