Hey /o/ i've been looking at first trucks to buy. I've been leaning toward the Caterpillar 797B. What do you all think?
>>14724933
Those tires are too small to do anything with.
>>14724933
Seriously though, how much would it cost to buy one of these used? And would you have to go to an auction to find one? How much did this shit cost new? I'm kind of curious about this now
>>14724940
Indeed,get a Caterpillar 994,better tires.
>>14724933
great mileage
>>14724940
As this guy said i'd look for some aftermarket 44 ft tires and a 16 ft lift kit. After that a new trans cooler + wheel bearings because oem ones are shit and gonna need replacing

I'm not sure you could stop desu
>>14724933
Komatsu ftw
Definitely lift and get bigger tires plus tune for them, or you're not going anywhere. Otherwise good choice for a first offroader.

>>14724962
I don't think they sell these things used. They arrive in containers and are assembled on site. You'd have to disassemble it and I assume they're just scrapped after their lifecycle is over.
>>14725722
I'd imagine when the ore deposits are tapped out, you could buy one from the mine that still works.
>>14724933
That's a cute lil truck.
Get a Bucyrus.
>>14725755
It'd still be in the multimillion dollar range. These things are fucking monstrous.

Depends. At Freeport where the pit is done with they're pushing the trucks and diggers into the pit to help refill them. Easier than getting the fuckers off the mountain.

Hitler was kind of an idiot when it came to military tactics. And to answer your question, it's because a tank that size would've been an easy target for fighters and bombers.

Good thing we do have shit to dig up from the ground and sell to the world year round then.
Size isn't everything. Those trucks are really only good for hauling dirt.
What you need is a terex 4400 or cat 776D and a belly dump trailer. Then on the weekend, you can hook it up to your travel trailer and go camping anywhere within 60 mies. .
Or hook up to pic related and take your mother out for supper.

>mfw learning this thing is electric powered
>>14730620
Some of the stuff like in the OP is electric too. There's a diesel generator onboard but it doesn't actually do any of the driving.
>>14725600
>filename
>>14730662
>doesn't do any of the driving
Except that without it the only thing you can do is roll it down a hill.
With your mindset if you hook up a diesel generator to your house the generator doesn't actually light your lights.
>>14726527
Compared to those MASSIVE ships in that picture, our Aircraft carriers would be tiny. To build a ship on the left of that picture would take YEARS, if not decades.
>>14727537
>skydiving
>off something that short
>>14730620
Yep. A lot of large Bucyrus rope shovels are also powered off a mains connection. Usually there's a ~35k volt portable line spanned across the pit floor to the machine.
>>14731749
Do they get the power from the utility company or do they have a generator nearby for that shit?
>>14731986
Either I guess, although I imagine if the project was to develop their own power via an on site generator, they'd be better off with a diesel over electric machine I'd imagine. The mine I used to work at imported power for them from the utility company via high voltage lines.
I guess it also depends on how remote the project is.
