The side plate is a statement.
They're proud of their design and want to exclude the plate from the design.
Most other brands design the cars with front plates in mind.

My father's getting his back. It has a new block now, because the distributor belt shat itself at 58k kms. I wonder, though, does it now have an engine off the 4C production line? It wouldn't make sense, it's the same engine, its only difference is the compression ratio, which is lower in the 4C.
Alfa Romeo paid for the engine being sent to Italy for inspection, and for the repairs.
The car handles like a gokart, has a limited slip diff, and has a small turbo. Lots of torque, 350Nm at 1400rpm, and throttle response is instant. 6 speed manual.

That engine actually does valve overlap in order to spool up the turbine.
Because much like the British government fucking up everything with British Leyland to counter unemployment, the Italian government forced Alfa Romeo to move manufacturing capabilities south of Rome (I think there was a plant near Napoli) where everyone is lazy and shoddy and rightfully unemployed, and immediately the build quality and reliability moved to "approximate".

I think the car looks good even in the base trim (as pictured).
These photographed cars are regularly registered and come from the first lot of 100 Giulia ever produced, all assigned to FCA workers.
The first definitive Giulia ever produced is a Quadrifoglio launch edition for Sergio Marchionne.
The wheels are horrible, 16" on high profile tires, but hopefully nobody will buy the entry level trim.
