I have a '01 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. I don't do anything with it since I got a new car. A buddy of mine is parting out his GTP of the same year because he got rear ended. He kept it mostly garage kept and it only had 35,000 miles on it. Would a swap to the GTP engine be real difficult? or would it fit with relative ease? Also what transmission would go well with it to make the car a manual? I know the manual swap would be a lot more difficult, but I also have another friend who works in a transmission shop. Obviously it can be doen since the GTP is just a variant of the Grand Prix. The questions I'd be asking myself is what exactly will I have when I get done and will it be worth the effort over something else?

I already have another car that is my DD. For me this would just be a project. But I didn't know if there were any huge gaps between the SE and GTP for whatever reason.I already put money into having a nice DD, so I don't mind putting a little money in this car to have fun with it. I feel like it'd be a pretty rewarding experience, too.

I don't think that can be done. I don't know if there are any manuals that will be able to bolt up and fit.

if you can get the engine for cheap do it. Although there are websites that make autos to a higher standard for gtp's. (for dragging and such)
i'd do it, would be fun. There might be struts and harder suspension on the gtp from what i know of its contemporary the malibu ss
