Acquaintance of mine is moving out of the country and posted his 1998 Audi A4 Avant Quattro 2.8l 6 cyl for sale. 180k miles and autotragic transmission. He was asking $2000 but would do a friend price of $1200 for me if I take it as is (ie no nitpicking to take price down). Been looking for a daily driver since my truck gets horrible MPG (like 8) and $1200 is nice and affordable. I will take it to a euro shop for an inspection prior to actually buying it to make sure it's not a heap.

However, I do not know anything about European cars especially Audis. Is it a good or bad idea? He's been daily driving it for the past 3 years so it cannot be that bad.

Those V6s are nice and reliable. Dunno about the autotragics mated to it.

It'll be more expensive to maintain vs something more boring, but in exchange it'll probably handle better and and be overall nicer to drive than your average shitbox.

For 2k id do it of nothing is in serius need of repair or replacement.

I said better than average, usually because the suspension is pretty decent on german sedans.

Didn't say it was a track weapon. Im thinking like compared to a camry or something.
