>>
>>14710864

I know /o/ loves to shit on these, but they're probably the single best cheap Daily Driver you could ask for.

>Purchase price is cheap

>Parts are cheap and plentiful

>Easy to work on

>God tier reliability

>4 doors

>V8

>RWD

They're very plain aesthetically, but they've also got this underlying brutish masculine quality to them. It's an iconic silhouette that fits in everywhere and doesn't appeal to a single demographic. Old white people, young black people, anyone in any neighborhood might own one of these and it wouldn't be out of place.

The Vic is to land barges what the Miata is to Roadsters. They may not be the best, but they're by far the best for the money. People who hate the Vic are the same kind of people who hate the Miata. Handmedown FWD Econobox driving normies who have never picked up a wrench and think if they can't afford a Lamborghini or Ferrari, then no car is worth driving.

I don't see the point in getting one of these if it's not a CVPI. If you're just getting a Civilian version wouldn't you be better off going with a Grand Marquis or Towncar?

CVPI grille looks better than the LX anyway and Spotlights are fun as hell. You also get a little more power and a way more aggressive rear end.
>>
>>14712993
Only fags who got stuck with an Civilian version try to justify their purchase over the CVPI. You're getting a much slower, less durable car and LXs don't even have that many more amenities.
>>
>>14713010
This. P71 has heavier suspension and alternator in addition to the more aggressive rear (3.73?), engine tuning and dual exaust.

Rears in CVPIs are usually 3.27 or 3.55. Civilian models are an anemic 2.73. A lot of people swap out for 4.10s though.
>>14713119
>>14713119
>I fully expect Crown Vics to be classic muscle cars 25 years from now.

It will be interesting to see. They're already an iconic silhouette due to their frequent use in PD Fleets and Movies. I don't ever see them commanding big money, but I do think they'll continue to be popular cars to mod and over time restore.
>>
I have a 2000 P71.

>No heavy and pointless suspension upgrades keeps weight under 4000 lbs. Never need to turn anyway.

>Stock 3.55 rear. Installed 3600 rpm stall converter and cams to run flat 14s and peg 140mph speedo while still only turning 2000 rpms at 60mph.

>Got the full interior from a junked Grand Marquis for $50. Leather and fake wood trim luxury.

Why can't everyone be as cool as me?
>>
>>14713380
Used Crown Vics are one of those cars you'd really have to be careful with. Especially those that served on the force may be horribly abused. The odometer may give a certain mileage but that still does not account for idle run time, and being floored getting to speed.
I'd say the more sought after models in that time would be the Grand Marquis and the Town Car. Same car, different badges and probably better taken care of.

>I fully expect Crown Vics to be classic muscle cars 25 years from now.

also usually with saggy rear suspension, as well as that fucking tiny single inch and a half exhaust.

The bench seat is nice tho.

As a former MGM owner, I'd go civilian crown Vic with hpp package if budget allowed, otherwise a state trooper p71.

Got in an accident and totaled my 1998 crown vic this week... Had her for 8 years.
Bought it at 80k made it to 160k
Only ever had to replace power steering pump engine coils and a front wheel bearing(my fault). All the work was easy enough to do by myself.
Great cars. Mean motherfuckers.
Only downside was the automatic transmission, and gas milage.

Actually yeah the fact that everyone knows it as a cop car means a lot. The fact that it's memorable is probably the single most important attribute for being a classic car ya dingus.

Also being the last body on frame RWD car with a V8 pretty much guarantees that enthusiasts will continue to be interested in it even if it was never particularly fast in its stock form.
>>
>>14714150

>mfw revered N/A classics from the 50s and 60s are blown away by modern replacement crate engines.

25 years from now, people will look back on it nostalgically. Do you think people appreciated Model As in the 40s? Or Tri-fives in the 70s? They were just moderately old cars. Now they are heirlooms.

As already mentioned, it's the last of the full-size American RWD V8s. I'm not a Ford fanboy by any means, but I want one because they are iconic and simple to work on. A clean P71 in police livery will be worth something, believe it or not.
>>
>>14714188

Well from those years you can choose between Ford, Chevy, Plymouth, etc so none of those cars individually are that desirable though there is definitely a market for 80s/90s full size sedans. But the Crown Vic from 98-2011 was the last of its kind so it will definitely be remembered and desired by enthusiasts. I can personally say my Crown Vic always got way more comments from random people than more "enthusiast" type cars like my foxbody mustang or Celica GT-S. What I'm saying is the Crown Victoria definitely has a space in the pop culture of its era so people will always remember it and certain people will want to own one.

Like 300 hp but paired with a 4.10 rear end theyre pretty agressive. Also they can handle alot of boost pressure on stock internals with reliability so most guys do 4v engine and a supercharger combo.
>>
>>14715077
>>14715067
The 4.6 DOHC is popular because it requires no modification to swap. There is an issue with 2005+ swaps because the newer vics have dbw throttle bodies. The 4.6 DOHC is an aluminum block so it's still a different engine and more expensive to mod. They say you can make 400rwhp with the stock engine with stock internals. If you plan on more than that then swap the engine.

I just bought a police interceptor version of this the other day. For the amount of miles it's seen plus god knows how much idling, it's in amazing condition, especially for the price I got it at.

No warning lights on the dash, good oil pressure, voltage, fluids, etc., and it sounds awesome. It might have a slight pin hole in the exhaust that amplifies it, but not to the point that I'd wake up my neighbors, so I'll leave that alone for now. It turns and goes without a problem. I just can't get enough of these panthers. If you're on the fence about it, just get one.

However, to my dismay, I ran into a glaring flaw

Really considering buying one of these

There's a 2003 for sale with 60k miles on it for 8k that's a 8 hour drive (one way) from me that I can tow with my truck

Or there's another 2004 (only 1200 black 2004s were made) with 30k miles on it for 12k but it's literally across the country I would have to fly out and check it out, and either drive 40+ hours back or ship it via train.

I also have no room to store it unless I parked my truck on the street

Honestly, Marauders aren't worth the money unless you absolutely love the car in stock form for some reason. You'll never see your money back out of modifying one and if you plan to do serious mods, you might as well get a CV MGM and mod it for a fraction of the cost. In stock form they're slower than a fwd 96 Cadillac. They're also slower than a CVPI with 3.55s to 30mph. After 30 they begin to open up and climb the cams, but as someone who's Father owned one... they simply aren't worth it.

I dunno why I want one, other than they're rare and will continue to be rare.

I think I'd keep it stock, but tune it and throw in different gears I know I'd never get my money back but I doubt id sell it

This.

Marauders are modern boomermobiles. Limited production is the only reason they're worth anything.

For 4k you can get a cherry LX, CVPI, MGM or TC.... No way in hell is a DOHC making 50 more HP worth the 2x-4x hike in price.

>I dunno why I want one, other than they're rare

There you have it... they're rare. Other than that, it's just another Panther making as much power as you would from a 2v with a few mods.

Eh already had a cvpi, just looking for a summer car, current dd is my f150

Let me dispel some myths.

>HURR MUH COP ENGINE
Only thing different about the P71 long block physically is (maybe) head gaskets. The rest is down to tune, the intake/exhaust being slightly larger, 3.27 minimum diff ratio, and a smaller, higher-revving torque converter.

>P71 better frame, more durable, better handling
The P71 handles slightly better because of the bigger swaybars (front is actually smaller than the LX Sport) stiffer shocks/springs, and maybe, MAYBE a slightly reinforced frame. It's still floppy in stock form because the Watts link and rear control arms are shitty stamped steel, the swaybars are too small, and the tires are shit. Replace these three things and it's a night-and-day difference.

>gutless
It gets out of its own way, and that's about it. 3.73 gears make it feel a bit better. Still sounds godly.

They also got improvements to the rear suspension, like moving the shocks further outboard for better leverage.

Oooooooooohoo shots fired te he he!

They're comfortable, reliable and cheap. Sure they're not for everyone, they're fuck huge, gas mileage isn't the best but you're buying a V8 so the sign is on the door there.

I like them.
>>
>>14718067
I'd get the 2003. Pretty good deal. The 2004 is good too but almost too good. And ultra low milage would make you afraid to drive it.
>>
>>14712782
>never knew they had v8's in them, never going to try to outrun a cop now.
It's the same 4.6 V8 as the early 4th gen Mustang GTs, but it's also a massively heavy landbarge so any big power is nil.

You shouldn't be trying to outrun them anyway, you might be faster than a Crustang but I guarantee you're not faster than a Motorola.

mr. regufur please go

>better handling
> on a literal landbarge
>>
>>14719837
To be fair handling is actually pretty decent for a car that size
>>
>>14719837
>>14719879
Not to mention it has no driving AIDS either, no traction control or esp. A traction control was available but can be fully turned off.
>>
>>14710864
that car makes you look shorter than you are already, manlet.
>>
>>14719879
no it isnt, at all.
>>
>>14719928
>tfw want to buy a panther but being a 5'4" king of the manlets will make me look even shorter
>>
>>14719961
Lower it. P71s have like 6 inches of ground clearance.
>>
>>14719971
I don't want to lower a car with how shitty the roads are around me.
>>
>>14719975
I'd rather get a giant car than getting a smaller car just to look bigger.
>>
>>14714910
>New York would still have far more Crown Vic Cops and Taxis if not for Sandy.
and because every NY cabbie i ever spoke to who drove anything besides a CV was like "fuck yes, i love this thing, much easier to drive in the city and much better mileage"
>>
>>14720009
At my height the only thing that can make me look taller is a Big Wheel.

Life is pain.
>>
>>14715022
you'd have been even safer in a car with a unibody chassis and side air bags
>>
>>14717120
>That crap intake and intake runner design
dohoho
>>
>>14715001
>not wanting a simple body design that still has a confident masculine air without looking like an angry vaccum cleaner (looking at you lexus)
