is there anything else as good as a pre 21st century grand cherokee
>>
transmission shit the bed at 95k in my grand cherokee laredo. i6 has a gasket leak somewhere that i noticed last time i went to change the oil that i can't be bothered with.

pretty good otherwise but its garaged and only comes out for snow duty these days.

Then make sure the batteries are good in the smoke detectors in the basement. Or you could stop regurgitating /o/ memes and hit the trails. Maybe learn a thing or two about vehicles while you are at it skippy.

did you not read the OP?
those are just soccermom suv's with a jeep badge slapped on
>>
>>14709561
I admit I overlooked the 'pre'. Still disagree.
>>
>>14709560
...You know what, maybe I'll just stick with 90s-early 2000s cars after all.
>>
>>14709595
having anything more than just a simple injector control system in a car is just silly
although it is a testament to how poorly chrysler has treated the jeep name

Are amerifats even trying?

Fucking goddammit Chrysler, why would you make a high stress part out of fucking plastic.
>>
>>14709642
you can make the excuse that jeeps don't need more than 250hp
but it's just down to chrysler not knowing how to v8
>>
>>14709648
Well yeah, people can say that a car "doesnt need" this much power, but then again it wouldn't need a 5.9L engine if it's not delivering good power for it's size.
>>
>>14709650
the i6 makes 180-190hp or whatever depending on what year it is, and it was plenty for the grand cherokee
the v8 was just for idiots who won't buy a car without a v8
>>
>>14709655
But wouldn't it be nice if the i6 made 250hp and the V8 made 300+? That's my point, not that it needs more power, but that they should be able to put out much more with those engine sizes.. BMW's 4.4L V8 for instance from the same time was making 290hp, while the 3L i6 was giving you 230hp
>>
>>14709655
Can't you get like 250 BHP and 300ibs-ft of torque out of the i6 anyway for under a grand?
>>
>>14709660
us americans are notorious for having silly emissions standards and not being able to get good power out of our engines
but 250hp would be nice
>>14709662
with a turbo and better intake manifold I believe you can
>>
>>14709660
Apple's to Oranges, the amount different with those engines is significant, it's not magic that the BMW engine makes more power.
>>
>>14709668
>with a turbo and better intake manifold I believe you can
>turbo
I don't think even that much, I remember seeing a guide to getting something stupid like 350bhp but that involved almost a full teardown. But shit like new exhaust, belt fan delete, better intake, better throttle body. Lots of little 1-3 HP boosts that eventually add up.
>>
>>14709660
The I6 and 5.9 are both engines from the 50s with basic fuel injection systems tacked on, what ymdo you expect
>>
>>14709223
What a coincidence, the tranny shit the bed in mine somewhere around 100k as well. I had a 5.2 V8.

The aluminum D44 sure made modifying it for offroad a pain, so I got rid of it eventually.

Aside from those two faults, I really liked it. It was a nice car to go camping in.

>>14709655
The i6 was plenty for the regular XJ, but honestly I think the 5.2L V8 made the perfect amount of power for the ZJ, it's a bit more luxury than the XJ, so having that extra bit of power is kind of expected as well.
>>
>>14709670
there's also this, the amc i6 was never meant to be a high performance engine
>>14709673
you could maybe do it if you did a ECU retune with all that
