Alright, so I'm looking at a '03 4runner at a stealership.
A rod broke in my Jeep's engine, and I'm looking at a replacement around the same size, weight, etc.
It's fully stock except the Sony head unit, 127XXX, new tires, will need brakes and the rear window motor, both I can DIY.
Dealer is asking 9/9.5k, will possibly take the jeep as a trade in for a few hundred.
Any anons with experience with these "trucks"? Car fax reports one accident in 2006, I could not visibly see any bending or cracks in the frame. The engine is crazy quiet at idle, no shutters or ticks/knocks.
Will post the VIN in a minute, maybe I can grab a few more pictures too.

Financing 9k? Really?
They spray painted the hitch to cover up rust, but I can see it's peeking out on the rear trailing arm mount. OP, check the underside of this thing VERY carefully. If the truck has spent its life near Cleveland as the plate surround suggests, I honestly would suggest looking elsewhere. That's an okay price but not great given that it needs work immediately. I was looking at an '03 V8 with 115k miles on Craigslist not long ago for $8500 asking, and it was a super clean 2 owner truck with no immediate looming repairs. It too had a somewhat rusty underside, but probably not Cleveland lake-effect bad.

Yeah, it has a bit of rust underneath, more so directly between the front wheels, which I guess is due to a missing (?) splash guard.
Along the sides and exhaust are all clean, Cleveland wise. Most others this year I've seen have holes and rusty mufflers, etc, etc.
I was thinking of trying to talk the price down closer to 8k.
It sucks that I just put about 2 grand into my jeep and picked up a Supra with 80k miles last month.

Dude, $10k will get you one a few years newer. Around here, '03's are more like $6k in decent shape.
Also, '03's with the 2uz only have a four speed trans, newer ones have 5 speeds. I think it was '06 they got VVTi as well.

Funny you mention that, because the sister dealer across the street has a '06 for 13.2, but I don't care for the color or that it has a V6

The 4.0 is a damn good motor and has a timing chain instead of a belt. Also, the V6's have part time 4wd whereas the V8's all have full time 4wd.

All v8s have had the 5spd from the getgo IIRC, 4spd was V6 only in 03-04.
Why in the hell does an 03 4Runner BB for 8k while my 02 Lexus RX300 only BBs for $4500 with only like 15k more miles
