On some of the earlier cars, they had what was considered a "matte" finish.
However, it wasn't "matte" in the traditional sense of using "matte finish" automotive paint.
The paint was usually made with a bespoke mix of various paints, and had a rough, textured finish.
It's difficult to make out in photographs, but if you ever get to chance to see a RWB irl and take a close look at the paint, you'll see what I mean.
