Did this myself in a '96 S-10 on accident after having spent all day with a column shift manual tractor. It just made a ratcheting noise until I stopped, but it didn't break anything.

I was slowing down for turning traffic in my first automatic car after having driven for many years with stick. As I hit 30mph, I subconsciously went for a clutch pedal, my foot found the corner of the brake, and shoved it to the floor. Scared the fuck out of me because it was an old escort with no abs and small tires, so it locked up the tires and got sideways into oncoming traffic. I got back in my lane though, no crash.
