For the same reason I didn't buy a Model S when I really wanted to: they have literally one of the worst reliability ratings of any car ever made.

Check out consumer reporting indexes and take a look at model S, it's complete garbage. I cannot trust that the model 3 will not share the multitude of issues the model S has, so I'm opting out until a couple years into production.

Understand that when you're being a car from Tesla, you're paying a company that has only recently started making cars and is mogul'd by someone who could not care less about anything other than getting production moving and units out the door.
>>
because its a hype meme car like everything else tesla has made. their car suck almost as much as their drivers
>>
>>14703404
Electric cars have been around for more than 100 years

I can live burning fossil fuels with no worries

But with a drivetrain failure after 60k when you're out of warranty is insanity

The problem with battery packs is that they degrade, I don't think the tech is there yet for long term reliability
>>
>>14704736
And gasoline engines barely have a part on them that doesn't degrade.
>>
>>14704745
What's cheaper? A battery pack or a clutch? Can you change a battery pack yourself? Or at least as easy as a part on a gasoline car?
>>
>>14704745
Hey I don't mind paying a couple thousand bucks on car parts over the span of my vehicles life.

But paying nearly 20k for a battery refurb just because something failed outside my warranty? Fuck that noise.

There's a reason Tesla is so fast on the draw, it's called covering their asses as best as they can
>>
>>14704745
I've never had a combustion engine lunch itself within 60k miles but ok

(Don't own a C7 corvette tho kek)
>>
>>14704756
Can you switch out half the engine on a new Mercedes-Benz?
>>
>>14704736
They're not failed though. It was a preventative measure, which Tesla covered. They could have failed, maybe, but Tesla took care of that before it became an issue.
>>
>>14704770
With time and money, ya I could. But even if I took it to the shop I don't think it would cost as much as a battery swap.
>>
>>14704706

bitter Californiafag detected.

enjoy driving your characterless appliance around,
>>
>>14704762
The recalls were nothing about the batteries though. It was about the drivetrain.

this thread turned out worse than even i suspected it would.
>>14704736
you need to read the article more closely, the drivetrain "failures" aren't actually failures, it's just that tesla likes replacing them if they make ANY noise to analyze what they look like after long periods, also the first year model was known to have a potential drivetrain issue but that was fixed for the second model year.
also also that survey was voluntary and only had a few hundred participants if i remember correctly, meaning you're going to see a big bias towards people who had issues and are upset

it's basically a perfect storm of bad statistical analysis and even then, the article title is clickbait and doesn't really agree with the study itself

but congrats for falling for clickbait

>I don't think the tech is there yet
The tech is on the same level as it was over 100 years ago. First electric cars had about the same range as modern e cars.
The idea of a battery doing nothing but carrying around itself is so retarded from an engineering point of view it's mind-boggling. People who fall for this probably never carried around a regular car battery.
