How stupid would it be to bolt together two flathead engines to construct a single engine with opposed pistons?
someone made a 4 cylinder out of 4 briggs lawn mower engines. literally welded them all together and trimmed the heads up to make it work.

just think of it as a 8 cylinder version of old bmw boxers
>>14702280
To make a cross-section like this though.
>>14702287
Definitely try this
>>14702287
This is a thing
>>14702287
T head ?
>>14702403
>>14702418
that's the opposite of what OP is saying
>>14702237
You mean to make something like a Jumo 204? Probably the hardest thing would be engineering the joint between the two faces and avoiding the valves hitting each other, so you'd probably need some kind of plate between the two halves.
Cool project. There have also been diesel ones used in trucks. Must have sounded pretty crude.
>>14702454
And unless it's going to be diesel there's no room for spark plugs.
>>14702454
Just look up the Napier Deltic, unlike the jumo you can actually see videos of the Deltic working.
> 24 cylinders
> 48 pistons

Each piston would make a portion of power sent to shafts fight with eachother instead of freely delivering it probably.
>>14703991
>two stroke
>3 crank
>24 cyl
It's stupid but I like it

stop imagining things that never happened.
