I spent like days researching and writing up how the radar would have bounced all over the fucking place, closing speeds, panning, researched radar types, how often they need to be calibrated, all the technical lingo, was gonna grill the cop about his tire size, tire pressure, all that shit that would have thrown the reading off, and bam. dismissed because the cop never showed up.

Mine wasn't vehicular, it was for a riding a mountain bike on a hiking trail ($270). I went to every trail intersection in the network and found a way where I could have taken a convoluted route and not seen a no bikes sign. I already told the ranger when I was getting the ticket that there was no sign on the previous junction, but he said I must have passed by a sign at some point on the way in, my argument was the ranger couldn't have known where I passed other than the previous junction. The judge was pretty reasonable, I think I would have had a good chance. I was also going to bring up the founding fathers, the wilderness act, FDR, the fact that I am 1/16th native american and the white man stole my land, some erosion studies, and that I wasn't riding the bike, I was merely staying still and the earth was rotating under me.

There's a pre-trial first where you plead no contest, guilty or not guilty. Officers NEVER show up to the pre-trials because there are a fuck ton of defendants. Now, if you please not guilty and actually have a trial all to yourself, there is a very high chance the officer will show up. Many officers get roasted by their Captains if they miss court.
