My bike is lean as all fuck at idle. It shows 15 to 17afr, and sometimes goes off the scale lean. Hanging idle when I rev it. When I adjust the idle screw down to get it to stop hanging after a rev, it will just die after a few seconds of 900rpm. It seems like it wants to idle at 1400rpm +, or not at all.

Then, on the other side of the scale, at cruise, Im seeing 10 to 11 AFR on my wideband.

It should be almost 100% on the pilots during idle and cruise, so why lean as fuck for one, and pig rich for the other?

Needles ARE raised to the highest clip, and even have two washers under to raise it further, in an effort to richen the midrange.

Diaphragm springs are cut in half and then stretched back to original length for stiffening, to keep the slides from flying open, in order to richen midrange once again.

Had this problem before I raised the needles and stiffened the springs however.

At least my mains and float height are dialed in pretty well. It only has a tad of a lean hole in the midrange at WOT,getting to about 15.5 AFR, but quickly, gets to 12.8 to 13.3 AFR once I hit 6k to redline.

I copied a well known jet kit, researched the proper jets for my elevation and region, and even got a hold of actual needles from the jet kit. The dude doesnt sell them a la cart, and charges like 300 bucks plus. F that.

The carbs are immaculate, Ive taken mikunis apart literally hundreds of times. I have 3 suzuki bandits after all. None have ever given me this hard of a time. They warned me bout those pod filters bro.

Also it pops at idle, and lean sneezes. I have wasted many cans of carb spray and WD40 trying to find an intake leak, or even an exhaust leak. There isnt a living mosquito within 5 miles of my house.

The bike ran PERFECT with the stock airbox and a stage one jet kit on it. The pod filters have been a nightmare.

>>14694280
Ive had the screws turned from 1.5 out, to a tad over 4 turns out.

I got the bike to idle with a set of #20 pilot jets, and 4 turns out on the idle mixture screws, but it should NOT need that much pilot, nor that many turns out. Even then, it was idling at 14+ AFR.

This jet kit ( a holeshot stage II ) calls for K&N pod filters, 140 to 155 mains, stock #15 pilots turned 2 to 3 turns out, and holeshot needles on the middle clips. It should run at least DECENT like that.

However, I am not positive that some of the componets could not be worn out. That is my next move. To start throwing money at it. Aside from the obvious carb rebuild kits ( containing basically only an o ring for the idle screws, at least thats the only thing pertaining to the idle circuit) what buy?

Thats the thing, this holeshot stage 2 kit is raved about on the forums. It makes a no-shit 18hp over a stock bike when included with a slip on.

The thing is that since I didnt actually buy the kit from the dude, I cant really ask jetting questions there now, I'll be blacklisted.

And I would have to buy new intake boots to be able to fit a stock airbox back in the frame. Might be my next move honestly. Im honestly just trying to get the bike running perfect before i undertake my next mod to it, a draw through turbo kit sitting in a box in my garage.

But I dont want to give up, either. Something is funky in these carbs, or something.

>also how many cylinders

inline 4. Its a bandit 1200, basically a 1995 GSXR 1100 with a steel frame and non USD forks.

>and have you blown out the idle circuit to make sure some shit isnt stuck in there?

Yes, multiple times. I know how to do it, too. I disassemble the carbs and soak them in carb dip, then blast them out with an air compressor.

>and lastly have you tried running different gas in it? all my bikes run much happier on ethanol free

It is literally unpossible to get that here. I could get race gas I guess though. worth a shot.

On normal tires? Go slow, dont lean over barely at all, hang off the inside of the bike, and be REAL easy with the front brake. I didnt have a car for two years. I rode a HD roadking in 4 inches of snow, and my bandit in ice. There basically is no turning, or stopping.

dont ride on the ice. not really sure what you're looking for here. there is no giant wheel heaters that will melt the ice, or any other way to get rid of the hazards. just watch out for it and you'll be fine, although your chances of wrecking go up by a lot.

i had to take my bike to work the other day as my truck was giving me issues, it sucked. it was icy and about 20 degrees F. i slid around a little but nothing too crazy, i think it was more so the cold road and cold tires giving up traction more so than patches of ice, although there were quite a few of them out there. just ride slow and upright, and the road surface and you will be alright.

It just happens, I really have no explanation for it. I'll tell a story that admittedly isn't bike related.

>living with my friend, colby, at his parents house for a year
>every weekend we'd spend it getting drunk and playing video games in his mancave
>get home from work on friday, hear the tv on in the mancave and think he moved his computer in early
>poke my head in, don't see who's on the couch
>let out a "COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLB" in a really groany and obnoxious voice
>his dad, who was on the couch, turns around looking at me supremely confused
>mfw
>stutter out "n-not colby" and speedwalk off

nice. I ride 2 up all the time with my wife on the boulevard in the video (805cc) and it handles it just fine. It's pretty comfy and likes to cruise. I do agree with you though that VTX1300 isn't exactly the most comfortable bike in the world though. If I was able to get a good enough deal on one I would pick one up and order up either a Corbin or Mustang seat for it and put some highway pegs on it to make it a little more comfortable.

People always complain about the sound of the VTX but I quite like it. It's very distinct.

Nice. The bike looks nice overall but I'm not sure how I feel about that batwing fairing you have on there. Looks a little off but hey, different strokes for different folks.

Where did you get the hard bags? I've been looking to possibly get some hard locking bags for my boulevard due to a couple of recent thefts.

Ehh not my favorite part of the bike. But it's quick detach. I only toss it on for long hauls. The bags came with it, fit a decent amount in them, both have helmet locks and are pretty sturdy.
Leatherlyke is the brand.

Sell things, bro. Pawn shops exist.

You might have a look for a food bank in your local area too.

Or just ask your friends for some porridge. A bowl of that will keep you going all day. Costs fuck all.

Thanks for the info senpai. I'll keep them in mind. The only thing that I would miss is the volume of the OEM bags. I can fit a fuck ton in them and all of the aftermarket bags I've seen are much more narrow than my current bags which cuts down on the functionality. I could always get a tour pack as well I suppose. Thanks again m8.

Any downsides to the bike as a whole outside of it not being all that comfy?
