Do the simpsons cars need an update?
When the simpsons first came out in 1998 it made sense for their family cars to have steel bumpers.
It suggested that the cars were from the at least the late 70s and kinda old and crappy.
In 2016 homer having a car with steel bumpers suggests he owns a classic car.
In 2016 Homer and the Simpsons in general existing suggests the world is extremely out of balance

Fox and their writing staff know this. But honestly they've alienated their previous fans so hard that none of them are watching to even care anymore, and they've rewritten characters and character history so much I think they should just permanently adopt a pink prius or something as gay.

The simpson's car is a 1973ish Plymouth Fury. Likely a 318LA going by engine noise in certain episodes.
They've touched on the fact that it's a wildly outdated car before but it's become so iconic it's not likely to change. Actually in one recent episode Marge got a new car, but it was destroyed by the staus quo. And now she's back to that wagon impala thing.
