And they tried to replace the RB engine with a V6 by the R33. The reason they kept the RB was because re-engineering the chassis for the V6 engine was cost-prohibitive for a production car.
That's why when the Skyline finally went to a new chassis in 2003, they dropped the I6 for a VQ V6.
The entire reason they wanted to use a V6 was because it weighs less than the RB, while the shorter length makes for better weight distribution.

When I was rebuilding my old R32 GTR's engine I used a heap of R33 parts in it, as its mechanically a lot better than the 1st series of RB26's. The ATTESA was also more advanced in terms of scan times and was able to control the left-right torque allocations which made for much better handling.
I still love the 32's, but there's a lot to like in the 33's package.

Just look at the supra, look at the fucking thing. It has no soul, there's no life in that front end. But the engine is superior in almost every way to the RB26 for peak power output, and it's RWD so it's less forgiving.
The R34 on the other hand has the most beautiful looking front lights/grille/lines combo I've ever seen, with a slightly weaker engine and it also weighs a little more. I imagine it drives better with the ATESSA system too.
I don't know, I can't be the only one who sees it.
Anyway, asking SUPRA OR R34 LOLLL is stupid. I think anybody on /o/ would get either one at the first given opportunity.

Tried to visualise the two cars as their human-relate-able counterparts and that's what I came up with.
To be less weird, Supra would be my priority over the R34 simply because of how easy it is to make more power and knowing the engine is built to withstand 600hp easily will give you peace of mind at all times.
Also it still handles well for a RWD and isn't actually pigfat like /o/ will have you believe.
With a refurbished suspension it'll out-handle and out-run many modern """"sports"""" cars still.
The R34 is so fucking beautiful though.

Last time I checked the only supras I could find were automatic & with upwards of 200k miles on them, with ugly body kits and shit paint jobs + mismatched wheels, and stuff like childish looking colored steering wheels and shifters.
A good condition close-to-stock manual goes for like £15-20k already, and the R34 GT-R for £30k minimum.

I have about $15,000 saved up in a spending account. GTR was a VSpec, 255kw @rear wheels (My mechanic doesnt have a 4wd dyno). GTR Was built with new forged internals, was planning to run increased boost but the car was sold before that came to plan.
Supras were 1st an SZ Non Turbo, then a 93 RZ TT with some basic mods. Nothing crazy. All cars are gone now, this was about 3 years ago I had them. Now i drive a TDI Passat Family Wagon and am going to buy an RX8 for something new soon. New PC so i have to go searching, but theres the SZ Supra, the R34 and an S15 Autech I had for a few months.

they are nice, really light, responsive chassis, plenty of parts available, they look nice, RWD, they are turbo (mine was Autech, so NA.. I have driven Turbo ones though also).
You are mostly going to pay that DriftTax on them now.
Honestly, really good cars and a massive boot. so, for me, it was pretty practical. back seats, like the supra, are a joke and really only there for emergencies.

Hmmm, Id buy another S15 before another Supra, for track and ease of modifications/parts availabilty.
Supra was great fun to drive, the extra weight and 'stance' on the road makes it feel more accurate and predicatable to stering inpout.
the s15 feels like, and flimsy. easy to flick around, but you dont feel as connected.
the gtr was sort of like a go kart car. except with the HICAS its a pain in the ass and feels like its sliding. Drives well, but it doesnt feel natural. After about 2 months and a near crash, the HICAS was removed.

I own a turbo S15.
They look great for their age, inside and out. You could almost peg them as being made in 2010 if you have a clean one. They respond great to mods, as they can take up to 300kw atw on the stock engine internals on E85 fuel. They are relatively cheap to run and maintain, and are a whole lot of fun to drive.

Yeah HICAS (and most of the AWS steering systems) is sort of one of those counter-intuitive things, if you can get rid of years of driving conditioning and reflexes they'd undoubtedly mean for faster corners.
But I couldn't get used to it either and binned it before I killed myself.
About the only one I ever sort of semi-liked was a UZZ32 Soarer I got a couple of laps in and it was quite a remarkable overall handling car really. One of those low production variants out there from the JDM market people forget about.

The UZZ31 was the airbag one, which is a sweet GT/cruiser car really. the UZZ32 was the limited edition of about 800 or so cars with the Active suspension and it was quite impressively flat through corners. Like literally zero-body roll
