A buddy of mine might be selling one of his 02 explorer for 1200

just wondering if this is a decent buy or not. It'd be my first car.

2001 was the last year of the OHV V8 and after that they went to shit.

Go for it. I had a 97 V6 as my first car and it was great. Drove it from 80k to 170k with minimal issues.

It guzzles gas, but gas is cheap now anyway. Parts are fairly cheap because it is American, but a lil more because it's an SUV so shit will cost more than a Focus or something. But only things I ever had to replace on mine were wheel bearings and an alternator.

Damn, I forgot it was that model. Some people talk shit about those. I had a 97 and 06 which are the models just before and just after and they were both decent so idk.

I'd say WATCH OUT. V6s can eat timing chain guides at higher mileage, if it's the rear set, it's an engine-out job to replace. Just about anything can take a shit on these: transmission, transfer case, wheel bearings, control arms.

I'd actually hunt down a clean 2nd gen explorer (95-01) with the V8 or the older OHV V6 before I'd consider an '02-05 truck.

Well,if I did, it'd be something like this.

I know its stupid as fuck investing money into these but you only get your first car once and the desperation is getting to me.

I think you would be better off doing that to a Grand Cherokee from a similar year

>v6
Just don't. Still has shit fuel economy and V8s in decent shape are going for less than $2k.
>>
>>14688998
He's probably getting it anyway. Sounds like a family member or some shit is probably handing it down to him
>>
>>14689001

Not really, 1200 for something I've been drove home in before from a friend, thats all

It's not in to bad shape, but it's not new either

lets put it this way. If you are just going to putter around town, then it will be ok. If you need something to commute a lot of miles between work, school, gay parties, home, you gonna get fugged m8.
