I bought a 2016 Two Door Golf GTI six speed.
Di-did I do good /o/? I'd rather have an AE86 or FC3S like all the weebs but those are hard to find in the midwest.
>>
>I wanted to spend a couple thousand on a car I actually wanted
>but instead I spent tens of thousands on a 21st century piece of shit
>>
>>14685866
Oh, You're one of those guys. At least you didn't say anything about body roll.
>>
There are quicker hatchbacks for the money, but the GTI is among the best (maybe the best) if you want something that is decently quick AND comfy AND practical AND doesn't look completely garish. Yea it's breddy gud.
It won't ever feel like an '80s weebmobile though. If you are looking for that feel, you dun goofed.
>>
>>14685809
Did bretty gud lad . Enjoy your car , i sure as shit would like one . Have a 2012 2.0L Diesel Golf in Yurop and i love mine . Could have a better one , but for sure could have a worse one .
>>
>>14685809
>FWD
Hahahaha

But seriously, those are the M3 of their segment. The car that all the other hatchbacks are compared to. A Focus ST might be better in some areas, but a GTI will be a fun car.

Now you can drive like a cocksucker just like every other GTI owner on earth.
>>
>>14685884
DESU golfs don't have a lot of bodyroll . I've had a non GTi one and it corners pretty flat on completely stock suspension . The ride is superb and with the 17" wheels and Michelin on the car grips like none other . Planted cars , these golfs . No sportscar but unlike most other hatchbacks that wallow about , the golf is a much more sorted chassis .
>>
>>14686033
FWD is actually really nice and nimble on a good car , problem is that you really can't do anything crazy with them like sliding around . You might no longer understeer or torquesteer in a modern FWD car but they still don't do hektik skidzz like based RWD . Really wish i had a weekend Hoon-mobile , but I don't mind FWD at all .
>>
>>14686033
>Now you can drive like a cocksucker just like every other GTI owner on earth.

Now Now I'm not too bad, I get up to speed on the freeway a bit more aggressively than what's necessary but I generally drive it like a honda accord, Unless some hick tries to be cute in his lifted f-250 and I have to teach him a lesson. I'm well aware of the stereotypes you speak of though. Cruising in the left lane vaping while listening to major lazer. Fuck those guys.

>>14686039
She's sitting on 18's and pirellis. Corners better than anything I've ever been in. There's always tfwnorwd though.
>>
>>14686025
I was close to getting a diesel jetta. They aren't so slow to take off with the turbo on them.
>>
>tfw going to get my new golf 7 GTI Clubsport in a week
feels good to be a volkswagen Employee.
Times get hard but a nigga still gettin it
>>
>>14685809
Is it a pain in the ass to do maintenance on the newer VW?
>>
>>14686378
It's set up like every other vw under the hood. I just bought it though so I'm sure I'll find out in a few years.
>>
>>14686372
That's word. I have the base gti.
>>
>>14685809

Did you get the performance pack OP? A LSD makes the car much more fun.
>>
Make sure to sell it around 90000 miles
>>
>>14686442
not even the performance? seriously why? The locked differential makes a huge difference, especially in daily driver situations like taking a turn at an intersection from stop.
>>
>>14686463
>Make sure to sell it around 9000 miles (guess you meant 9000 now)
>le volkswagens are made to barely survive the leasing period ameripropagandameme
>>
I actually planned on that. Turbo will be fizzled out by then as well as carbon build up in the head. Might just keep it though and give it to my shithead son when he's sixteen.
>>
>>14686456
Uh huh
>>14686471
That's a slight exaggeration, unless you ricer stomp the gas pedal at every light.
>>
>>14685809
What a boring average looking car that thing is.
>>
>>14686543
What do you like senpai?
>>
>>14686553
I like old stuff better lol. So many cars on the road today just look the same.
>>
>>14686543
The Golf is literally meant to be "the average car". It's meant to appeal to literally everyone at the same time, it's so inoffensive, the only criticism you can give it is that it's boring.
>>
>>14686611
Agreed. I hate most of them.
>>
>>14685809
The only vws worth buying are diesels. Since you can't buy them right now there's no reason to get a vw.

You made a great decision, OP. I would suggest a mid-priced coilover package to stiffen it up a bit. I went with Billstien shocks and struts with Eibach springs. Dropped it about an 1" all around, but improved cornering immensely.
>>
>>14685809
at least you didn't get a diesel
>>
Why not a DSG (auto)?
I hope it's the performance package model.

If not, you made the two only mistakes when buying a Mk VII GTI.
I own a Mk VI GTI.
>>
>>14686698
You can buy as many pre-owned TSI's as your little heart desires...
>>
>>14686715
Oops...TDI's.
>>
>>14686713
I know the dsg ones are technically better but it just feels wrong. Banging gears is half the fun.
>>
>>14686786
Yeah, I know. my Mk VI is a shifter and yeah, with more power you can throw in a Sachs organic clutch that can handle much more Nm than the DSG but ... it's just so much faster. And more comfortable in heavy traffic.

Anyway, don't tell me you didn't get the performance package. I don't understand how you can buy a Mk VII and not get the performance package.
Bigger brakes and differential lock all the way!
>>
>>14686077
>Unless some hick tries to be cute in his lifted f-250 and I have to teach him a lesson.
>mfw my F250 would leave your GTI like it's standing still
>mfw pretty much any diesel F250 with some tuning would too
Don't get butthurt, bro.

just enjoy your car. You won't be teaching anyone a "lesson" in a stock GTI unless you learn to drive well and go to a track day

I am jelly, I have a mkVI 2.5 5spd, got it because poorfag, and loved my buddy's GTI mkVI he bought new in 2010. Hoping to upgrade eventually, maybe even an R someday

I agree, if I were to get one, manual all the way, for me it just makes things so much more interesting and engaging, the dsg is cool and all, but it's still an autotragic
>>
>>14686893
That's nice dear.
>>
>>14686901
Looking clean and looking mean.
>>
>>14686710
le epic emissions may may XD
>>
>>14686094
maybe with the dsg or from a roll, but you're not moving until you row to 3rd gear
>>
>>14687090
Of course, I mean production diesel cars always suck on low end horsepower.
>>
>>14686823

This, I have a mkv. Once I installed a bigger turbo a LSD was a must. With the power a mkvii can put down with a simple reflash it's stupid not to get the PP.
>>

So true. It's brown, currently. At least the rear.

I love washing it, though. But I love driving it even more, so mostly I don't care if it gets a bit dirty.

It makes a significant difference, even my shitty 110hp golf had wheelslip when I was turning from stand at an intersection.

That's mostly because fucking ESP cuts you off. And you can't turn that piece of shit off completely.

>>14687899
I will add that two witnesses and the state police saw/determined that I was not at fault for this

Which I wasn't. While in the left lane on 45 mph 2 lane Rd (divided 4 lane) a SUV making a u turn switched into my lane right as I was passing him

For the GTI though I do like the look of the mkVII a lot, the one reason I am glad I have mine is it's an actual Wolfsburg built golf, not the new Mexican ones.

Not sure if the GTIs and Rs are Mexican as well or not
>>
>>14687912
That never works fully. Often times full deactivation requires coding changes or fuse removal
>>
>>14687912

>He thinks the ESP/TC override actually turns it off

Nope only makes it less of a soccermomobile. I drove my colleagues GLI when he was pass out drunk and it still kicks in with the switch in off position.

I dont know if you are just fucking with us here.. or really serious.

My Mk6 GTI had its tensioner fail right outside warranty. Started a case with VW, dropped it off at the dealership and the service manager told me he'd take a look at it. As we shook hands he looked me in the eyes and said "You know... These computers on the cars tell us a lot of information. A LOT of information. Like if you were racing and downshifted." I was like, sir it's an automatic and I was driving on base, 30 mph max. He replies "a lot of information..... A lot of informaaaaaationnnnnn..." and faded out right before my eyes.

That was Saturday. Still no call. I love you GTI I just hate your parents....
>>
>>14686471
Lol if I take off slightly too hard with the wheel turned, when the boost builds I smoke the passenger tire
Tis but a day in the life of a mk4 with broken traction control
>>
>>14686703
You're better off with a good spring and strut than mid range coils

I'm trying to find an OEM setup so I can rebuild it right and take off these busted fk coils
>>
Don't the new ones not have trouble with carbon build up somehow ?

i think my GTI clubsport is broken

>set display to show power
>highest it goes up to is 195kW, even when put it in Sport mode and hit that little button at the end of the gas (think it's called kickdown)
muh boost
but other than that it's a nice car
>>
Anyone here know anything about MKIVs? Gonna be looking at a couple today and doing a bit of research, the things I should be keeping a lookout for are coil packs and water pipes. Anything else?
