I'm an Amerifat and have the opportunity to trade my 2014 Mustang GT for a bone stock 80,000 mile 1997 red TT Supra.

The only issue is I would have to get about a $15k loan as I would trade the Mustang in for it. This car is something i've wanted since before fucking Paul Walker ruined it for me.

Thoughts?

Counterpoint: resale value. The Mustang will only decrease in value. The Supra may stay stagnant, or increase as the FnF/NFS:U demographic starts buying third cars or project cars. Already, boomers are investing in these for this reason. As with any material investment, the best examples make the best examples.

Yours has the mid-cycle updated headlights and taillights and relatively low miles. You could drive it, enjoy it, make a few easily reversable mods, and potentially sell it for a profit later.

I don't see the point of going nuts for a MK4 Supra. The SC300 and SC400 exist. They also have a large amount of parts interchangeability with the Supra's. They're also nowhere near as rare and nowhere near as expensive.

OP. if you want a Supra, just buy an SC300 and dump aftermarket into it.

Also, it won't retain resale value if OP drives it like he knows he wants to. In which case, he will have to coddle it and garage it, only taking it out maybe once a month. Which I don't think is what he wants. Resale value is not a factor here.

This is a really good suggestion. The SC300/400 is the closest thing to a Supra sister car. The 3.0L I6 is the same as in base model Supra's and the Supra support is usually interchangeable with it.

Collectibility/Resale goes down, that's the kind of car you buy to make a profit on at this point. Parts are rare for the Supra, if you get in a fender bender it will be a lot harder to source parts for. It's a 20 year old car at this point, little shit is going to start going wrong.

There are multiple reasons it doesn't make sense to DD it.

DDing a 20 year old sports car won't be fun. AC will be shitty if it works, radio will be mediocre, suspension will be unforgiving, and something electrical will give you problems once a week. Plus, rare turbocharged 20 year old sports car, have fun hoping it starts in the morning. Then you start adding miles and miles every year, value goes down, shopping carts hit it, parts break, stuff you didn't even know was steel will start to rust.

And then god forbid you have a standard full coverage insurance policy. Some cunt on her cellphone t-bones you and you will probably die. But if you don't die, you will wish you did when insurance totals your car and cuts you a check for $3500 because it is a 20 year old Toyota.
