I've owned both as well. I sold my W8 wagon when I bought my '08 535xit. Loved the E61.

I'm so tempted to get a stupid-high milage (full papers) 750 for dirt cheap and ride it, just for fun. They're around 1500 to 2000€ here for a decently kept one at 400+k km

Don't know if this counts or not but it is rare and a unicorn and i don't think they are very popular.
They were doing pretty interesting stuff with their cars and i feel like if they only had a bigger budget they probably would still be making very lightweight super-peformance cars. (they were also involved briefly in motor-sport)
