What radar detector does /o/ use?

>inb4 "go the speed limit faggot"
Not all of use drive Mazdas

Tickets are so cheap and detectors so heavily fined here that I can pay fiddy tickets from the price and fine for one confiscated detector.

Beltronics STi Magnum in my car and Adaptiv TPX on my bike with line of sight LED's in my helmet to signal threat direction.

Waze has been a better than a radar detector. But would say when I had one I never got a ticket. When it goes off how long until cops get a reading? I know laser is instant.

Not in public roads unless I know the road is absolutely empty (that means having two people on both sides and no other connecting roads).

contain your idiocy to /pol/

nice straw man

You're lucky pre-schools don't have graduation exams.

To be fair you do sound like a total cuck

Buy a fast car to go fast
>>
>>14684329
speed limits are there to keep people safe.

especially since traffic lights are timed based on the speed limit of the area.

if you were speeding, you would have a smaller window to make that yellow light and can possible get someone hurt.
>>
>>14684494
6s car probably isn't considered fast, but it can go well above the speed limit. Thanks but no thanks. I have a track or closed/watched backroads for when I want to go fast.
>>
>>14684494
>not buying a fuel efficient and safe car for the unpredictable streets.

you might wanna get your priorities in order so you don't have to daily ur miata with a welded diff.

I use a Beltronics STI-r antenna (highly sensitive, not detectable by RDDs in cop cars) with a "multipurpose parking system" that happens to run on the same frequency a police LIDAR, and it "Tunes out unwanted sources of interference" :^)

Not running at triple digets on the highway because fuck normies

If you speed on back or busy roads you are scum but when you can drive in such a way that it does not effect others then why the hell not.

Also radar detectors only protect you from traps, they are just another tool

Believe me or not. Control is bluetooth via my phone so there's no visible controls in my car. The radar antenna and laser jammers are hidden in the front grille of my car. To take a picture of the system installed in my car I would need to shift the car of my nose forward (newer car construction).

I use a battery-powered radar blaster every time I see some idiot with a radar detector. Good laugh

So you prefer to waste 90% of your time inside a shitty car that you don't care about?

Life is too short for that.

They're kind of a bitch to install though - The sensors need to be level with the road and straight, and mounted far enough apart (ask for installation advice on relevant forums). Rear sensors aren't really needed unless your area uses rear LIDAR - most areas of the US don't. If you can't install it yourself labor costs to install could easily be another grand.

The performance of the system is excellent though and has saved me with LIDAR more than once.
>>
>>14683865
Cops don't use radar here, just laser / vascar. If you don't live in the 3rd world detectors are pointless.
>>
>>14685437
I doubt that. Even in Europe and Australia instant on low powered kA is becoming a real threat (with a traditional horn, detection range is less than 50 feet greater than the range at which a cop will get a read).

Laser has a very narrow beam (18-36" at 1,000 feet) meaning you can pick out a single vehicle in busy traffic at a long distance. It also generally won't splash onto other vehicles meaning once detected you're screwed, unless you have a jammer. LIDAR also has the advantage of showing the distance of the target at the time of the shot is useful as you can say that a car was definitively within an area with a given speed limit (newer LIDAR guns will even let you hit objects from point A to point B, e.g. the school speed limit begin/end signs, so cops can be sure they hit someone within the range of a speed restriction). It can't be used in inclement weather, is difficult to use at night, requires active attention/aiming on the part of the cop (only reflective parts, like some grilles, license plates, or headlights/tailights will return a LIDAR reading) and can't be used while moving.

All of this makes radar easy relatively (modern radar built into a cop car ties in with vehicle diagnostics, so it will remove the vehicle speed of the cop's car, and will account for oncoming traffic vs. traffic the cop is behind). He can just leave it on (or flick the instant on) and get a reading that gets recorded.

VASCAR exists in the states but isn't as nearly as common due to the amount of attention required by the cop.

>speed limits are there to keep people safe

>In response to the 1973 oil crisis, Congress enacted the National Maximum Speed Law that created the universal 55 miles per hour (89 km/h) speed limit.
>Subjective or political influence on speed limits is evident by state-to-state speed limit variances that have no empirical justification.
>Insurance companies may receive several billions of dollars annually in traffic ticket surcharges

my. fucking. sides. Keep us safe alright. Stop lying to yourself, speed limits are arbitrary and are primarily used for revenue. Yes, there are some speed limits set for safety reasons, but a hella lot of them are set because fuck you. I'm not advocating for blazing at 120 in a 30, but to say speed limits are for safety is why traffic tickets continue to generate so much revenue.
>>
>>14685487
I fought a 53mph/30mph zone ticket and it got reduced to failure to yield to a traffic device. (I owned a radar detector, but I stupidly didn't make sure it was on before driving, a mistake I won't repeat).
Ticket (after plea down to ignoring a stop sign): $200
Driver's Education online course: $25
Lawyer: $545 (like everything, more expensive in new york)
Total cost: Almost $800.

Thankfully since the end plea deal was not reckless driving, DUI, or more than 20mph over speed limit my insurance company isn't holding it against me. And new york would have surcharged my registration for the next three years for $100/yr if I had not fought the ticket.

Also, a lot of people seem not to get that out of state tickets are not just about points on your license not applying. 45 states share violation information. If you get a big speeding ticket outside your state you may not necessarily get points on your license for it, but 45 states share information on traffic convictions and it will show up when your insurance company pulls the information from your state DMV.

All of which make an ounce of protection (the radar detector) worth a pound o fcure.
>>
>>14685467
Radar was deemed inadmissible in the UK due to the large beam spread back in the 90s The only people who use it now are community speed watch and they don't have the power to issue tickets.

>>14685501

>We find that significantly more tickets are issued in the year following a decline in revenue, but the issuance of traffic tickets does not decline in years following revenue increases. Our results suggest that tickets are used as a revenue generation tool rather than solely a means to increase public safety.

awfully suspicious correlation m8, but of course, I'm just it's just because decline in city revenue means they suddenly care very much about safety!

Passing on the right is really triggering for cops. Even if people are going faster in the left lane, cops get a boner for pulling people over who pass on the right lanes.

That was a close one. Got it on dashcam too.
